Wes Eidson wins the City Council At Large.

For those who may not know me, I have lived in Walters for over 22 years. My wife, Kristie, and I have raised our children and our grandchildren here. Our boys graduated from Walters Public School and our grandchildren now attend Walters Public Schools. My wife also worked for Walters Public Schools for over 10 years until her health forced her to retire.

I bring a wealth of experience to this position having served for over 10 years as the Water Department Superintendent. In that ti me, I consistently attended City Council meetings for various issues and I am very familiar with the process, possibilities, and limitations of city government. In addition, I currently serve as Sheet Metal Superintendent for Brox Industries, LLC and have extensive experience in construction, personnel management, and achieving goals.

People ofter as me why I am running. The first and most important answer is my love for Walters. The second would be that I believe there needs to be change if we want to make our city better, stronger and safer. Watching the deterioration of Walters over the years has me concerned. We need to get more aggressive at rejuvenation so that our city can continue to thrive.

Le me say that the current administration and council have done a solid job of shoring up our finances. They have reduced our debt and we are now in the black. It has taken management, saving, and cutbacks for this to happen. Having said that, the time for holding back is over and it is time to move forward. It is time for change!

We need to improve the condition of our streets, address the drainage systems, clear the ditches and alley ways, address trimming trees back from power lines and ensure we have good quality infrastructure that can attract new businesses. We need to revitalize our historic downtown, revamp our established businesses and bring in new businesses. While the city does not own most of the building’s downtown, there should be incentives in place for building owners to cleanup, upgrade, or utilize their properties. There should actions taken for building not being maintained.

I continue to work with the Car Cruz, Youth Leagues, Mud Bog, concerts, fundraisers, sports, booster clubs, etc. in Walters and I know the great people who live here. That is the reason I wanted to run for the At-Large position so that the entire town would have a say in getting me elected. I believe none of us alone can do what all of us can do together.
