Walters Vocal Music Department has been extremely busy and successful this semester.  Competition began with Southwest OklahomaAll-RegionHonor Choir auditions where 20 Walters Middle School/Junior High and High School were selected and presented in joint concerts.  Little Dixie Contest in ECU, Ada, was another successful event for choir members.  All five soloist received superior medalist honors, the six ensembles were awarded first place honors and the mixed chorus was adjudicated superior and a trophy winner.

The Varsity Choir traveled to OKC and were recognized and honored to sing The National Anthem for Helena Munn’s citizenship ceremony.  The group has presented The Star-Spangled Banner for pep rallies in addition to their patriotic selection at the annual Veterans Day Service.  Recently they shared Thanksgiving selections with the congregation at the Ministerial Alliance Thanksgiving Service.

The final honor competition was the OkMEA High School and OCDA Jr. High All-State Honor Choir Quad auditions held in Lawton.  (Some of the schools included were from Lawton, Altus, Clinton, Duncan, Yukon, Norman, OKC and other schools.)  Glory Collins, Phelim Jiang, Robert Marlow, Makenzie Thurman and Zachary Wagner advanced to the final high school State auditions held at UCO, Edmond.  Noah Collins, Lauren Day, Axel Mallow, Sam Morgan, Hadlee Smith and Emma Youngblood were chosen to compete at their final State try-outs.  

All Walters singers ranked top in the state.  Noah Collins and Emma Youngblood, both freshmen in Walters Varsity Choir, were awarded the highest honor a singer could receive.  Emma, a Soprano 2 choir member, will sing with the prestigious2020OCDAJunior High Womens Chorus.  Noah will join twenty-four other Tenor 2 singers in the state for the 2020 OCDA Mixed Choir.  Singers at this level compete against all classifications that consist of 6A, 5A, 4A… and private schools throughout the state. CONGRATULATIONS! Walters school and community share in the pride of all the honors achieved.
