October 25, 2019 in the United States District Court - Western District of Oklahoma, Walters Varsity Choir had the experience of a life-time. That was the date they were invited to sing The National Anthem at the Naturalization Ceremony of 98 applicants. One of the very special inductees was Walters own, Helena Munn, am employee of the school and a lady dedicated to her community. She is of German descent and like the others from almost 50 countries represented that day decided to devote to the long American citizenship journey. Judge Robert E. Bacharach presided over the service and was assisted by Judges Janice D. Loyd and Sarah A. Hall.

It was an experience that will long be remembered and cherished not only by our students but her family and friends present to support Helena. The students were fortunate enough to meet a Federal Marshal that gave them a tour of other building locations, discussed different personalities that serve in the courts horoably and some notorious characters that appeared before the Federal Courts, and shared stories of the architecture, history and events involving the decades the structures stood tall.

So many lessons were learned and emotions shared. The choir was so proud of Helena, our newest American citizen from Walters, Oklahoma, and honored to be part of a most momentous occasion. To the amazement of choir members several “new” citizens took pictures with them to commemorate the event. Clerk of Court, Carmelita Reeder Shinn, recorded their rendition of

The Star-Spangled Banner

and she and D. Wayne Lee, Courtroom Deputy, invited the choir to return to sing any time.

Welcome Helena Munn to the United States of America!
