Walters Chamber of Commerce Met on June 15, 2020

The Walters Chamber of Commerce Board met on June 15th, 2020 at Noon, in the Walters Public Library, located at 202 N. Broadway in Walters, Oklahoma. The meeting was called to order by Board President William McKay.

Board Members present were: William McKay, Gina Suson, Wes Eidson, Brantley Tillery and Sheri Davis. Jack Jacob and Wendy Zimmerman joined the meeting by conference call.

Chamber members Stephanie Smallwood with Naked Mermaid and Kayla with Cotton Electric were also present.

The only Visitor was: Bill Shoemate with the Apache Casino.

The July 4th celebration will go on as planned, it has been suggested to take the $595.00 needed for games and prized out of the Community Chest fund. This year there will be not turtle races, instead we will have a pet parade. There will be no queen contest due to Covid-19. Fundraisers for 2021 were also discussed. The Circus coming in October will hopefully be a large amount that can go towards the 2021 July 4th celebration. A motion was made and approved to take the $595.00 out of the Community Chest.

Discussion was held about the Rodeo Parade, Wes will be in charge again this year. All participants will be given a registration form to fill out while in line and the form will be given to the announcer. A motion was made and approved to spend the normal $250.00 on prizes for the Floats and Best Dressed Indian.

Wes Eidson updated the board with progress for the Car Cruz. He showed everyone the T-Shirts that were designed and pricing with Fast Signs in Lawton for $10.50 each if we buy 250. There was other discussion about different places to get shirts and sponsors for the car Cruz. There was discussion about not having as many classes this year. We need to start getting in touch with vendors and going around to the business’ for sponsor donations.

Advertising/Economic development, the Herald and Scott Tax service moved to a new building and the Donut shop is moving locations due to the building they have been in sold and the new owners are putting in a new business. Stephanie Smallwood informed the Chamber that the Blessings Box for our area is at her store and she has witnessed how wonderful it has been for our community. She would like to see some sort of advertisement done about it to get the word out to everyone.

Under new business Jack stated that we have the ladders needed for the car Cruz. Stephanie will start working on vendors for the car Cruz. It was discussed making the vendor fees $7 5 for no electricity and $125 with electricity. Jack stated he would get the vendor application online changed.
