Walters Chamber of Commerce Met On January 27, 2020

The Walters Chamber of Commerce board met in regular session on January 27th, 2020, at Noon, at the Walters Library, located at 202 N. Broadway in Walters, Oklahoma. The meeting was called to order by Board President William McKay.

Board Members Joi Bellamy, Benne Brewer, Sheri Davis, Lacy Edgmon, Wes Eidson, Roberta Ellis, Jack Jacob, William McKay, Dawn Schilling, Gina Suson, Brantley Tillery and Wendy Zimmerman were present.

C h a m b e r M e m b e r s Jonathan Morgan (Walters Sno Shack) and Kaila Williams (Cotton Electric) were also present.

Visitors present were: Scott Chance, Field Representative for Congressman Tom Cole and Kathy Fullington.

The Board discussed the upcoming Pancake Supper, scheduled for Feb. 11th. Chairman Brantley Tillery stated that everything was progressing nicely. Sheri Davis & Dawn Schilling stated their willingness to take tickets the night of the event, & notify prize winners. Joi Bellamy stated that several door prizes have been donated, with more expected to be received.

The Banquet Committee updated the Board on the upcoming Chamber Banquet/ Business Meeting, scheduled for Feb. 20th, at 7 p.m. Chairperson Roberta Ellis ad-dressed the Board to request $1,000.00 (one thousand dollars) to be used for the purchase of Banquet needs. After Board discussion, a motion was made and approved to approve up to $1,000.00 for purchases for further Banquet needs.

There will be another Banquet Planning Meeting on Feb. 3rd, at 5:30 p.m., at the Library. We’d love to have YOU there. With everyone’s help, this Banquet will be so much fun, for all involved, & will truly BENEFIT our Chamber Businesses!!

The Board chose Chairpersons for the 2020 Schedule of Events. Regarding the Chamber’s participation in these events, the Chamber chairs will be: Pancake Supper (Feb. 11th)—Brantley Tillery, Banquet (Feb. 20th)—Roberta Ellis, Easter Egg Hunt (April 11th)—Sheri Davis, Spring City-Wide Yard Sales (May 2nd)—Gina Suson, Independence Day Celebration (July 4th)—Jack Jacob, Walters Round-Up Club Rodeo Parade (July 16th)—Wes Eidson, Ice Cream Freeze-Off (Aug. 22nd)—Wendy Zimmerman, Car Cruz (Oct. 3rd)—Wes Eidson, Fall City Wide Yard Sales (Oct. 3rd)—Gina Suson, and Christmas Parade (Dec. 5th)—Wes Eidson. We AL-WAYS need lots of help with these events, so if you’d like to be a part of any of them, we’d LOVE to have you!!

The Board considered approval of $100.00 (one hundred dollars) donation to the Annual Miss Walters Pageant. A motion was made and approved to approve the $100.00 donation for the Miss Walters Pageant.

Sheri Davis addressed the Board regarding the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt, requesting that the Chamber pay for one-half of the cost of the Easter eggs. After Board discussion, a motion was made and approved to approve paying for one half the cost of the Easter Eggs, up to $900.00 (nine hundred dollars), out of the Community Chest account.

Regarding Advertising/ Economic Development, two new businesses in Walters were mentioned. Robert & Krystal Hardy have opened “The Dryad And The Goblin“, & Jeff Hooser is opening “Jeff’s Custom Barbering”

New Business: 1. Oklahoma Emergency Managers of the Southwest (including Karla Eschiti, of Walters) will be having their yearly workshop in March. The Board will be asked to make a donation to help make this event a success. 2. Sheri Davis will address the Board to request a donation for the Cotton County Junior Livestock Show Trophy Auction. 3. Jack Jacob addressed the Board regarding the possibility having a Farmer’s Market, and a photography contest to be used in conjunction with the yearly Chamber Member decals.
