Walters Afterschool 4-H Club Visits Green’s Chicken Farm

On Monday, Oct. 4, the Walters Afterschool 4-H Club took a field trip to Greens Chicken Farm near Empire. Owners Kyle Green and Hunter Miller were on hand to explain about each aspect of chicken farming to the 4-Hers. We learned about incubators, nutrition egg production, free range chickens and many different breeds including : Black Cochin Frizzle, Lavender Orpington, Black Copper Maran, Rhode Island Red, Buff Brahmas, Barbu Duccle and many others. The students were accompanied by 4-H leaders Caitlin Farris and Denise Tulloh. Parent sponsors for the trip were Robin Burns and Mica Smith.
