Walters Public School system will have some much needed street work done around the schools, all thanks to the Comanche Nation. The Comanche Nation reached out to the Superintendent to see if there was a need. Walters School System is a small school and there is not money for fixing the streets, so the help from the Comanche Nation is much appreciated.

If you have never been around the schools, there is a parking lot between High and Middle School that students and faculty use daily. There are not enough classrooms in the Middle School for all the classes the students need, so they have to walk between the buildings. The gravel makes it hard on students and faculty to go between buildings, especially with handicaps. The pavement in this parking lot will lesson the chances of falling and being injured. Safety for everyone is one of the goals the school system has.

The four streets around the school are Nebraska, Third, Washington and Broadway. There will be some speed bumps put in to help slow down the traffic.

The road work will start possibly this week. The City of Walters and the County Commissioners have some work to do to get it ready for the re-pavement.

Be aware of the streets you travel to take children to school and allow enough time for the construction that will be taking place.
