End of 2018 Was Wild In Walters And Cotton County - Lets start with Christmas Eve, December 24th, in the wee hours of the morning when Sheriff Simpson was called to help Walters PD with a stolen car that resulted in a high speed chase. Sheriff Simpson ended up losing control of the vehicle which resulted in him having a wreck. He was transported to Comanche Memorial Hospital, then air flighted to a Oklahoma City hospital where he had surgery on an eye. He is home and doing well.

The end of the week (after Christmas) brought Walters PD to serving a search warrant on a home on W. Nevada where meth was believed to be. A day or two later a fight broke out on E. Oklahoma that resulted in one man being arrested for stabbing the other. Walters PD was able to pull the injured man out through a back window to get him to safety.

Among all this was the flood that came down with all the rain we have had.

It’s a long story and she tends to leave out words.. Connie Ricketts shared this with the Herald...Wednesday it started to rain no big deal but Thursday when I went to work I noticed the water rising. We have 10 acres north on Broadway and by noon it was really bad. My husband Keith came and got me to see if there was anyway we could get our 4 donkeys out of the flooded land. So I chose to walk in waist deep water for about 1/2 mile to do what I could.

I start off by myself soon a lady and her teenage daughter walked down to our land but after 30 or 40 minutes we couldn’t get them to come with us. 3 are adult donkeys and 1 is a mini donkey about 5 months old. We walked back to the car/dry land the water was so cold the water was crazy. After about 2 hours we called the Walters PD for help. Mainly worried about A.J. and mom.

About 4pm two of Walter’s PD and Cotton County Sheriffs Department came and saved the donkeys, the water was still raising but Brooke Stranahan & Bobby Sparks walked in and was able to bring A.J. the baby and mom Autumn out of the deep water.

The other two boys would not be able to come out they had not been handle much. Also we put them on dry land thanks to the man that had land just around the block.

Next day after a lot of prayers the water had gone down enough for me to walk back in and check on the 2 boys and by 4pm on Friday we could drive in. Sunday we walked the girls back down to their home. Thank you so much to everyone who helped us.

As we all know things can change in heart beat. Be aware of your surroundings.
