Local barber Jeff Hooser opened a new barbershop in Walters on January 30th. It is located at 120 W. California Street (1/2 block west of Broadway). Jeff was born and raised in Walters. He finished high school in Lawton and later moved to Dallas, TX where the rest of his family was already living at the time. After 17 years there, he said his whole family got tired of the Dallas traffic, road construction, and the everincreasing property taxes so they all decided to move back to Walters 10 years ago.

Many know that Jeff has had a commercial lighting maintenance business with his dad Jim Hooser since moving back to Walters. When asked why he decided to open a barbershop in Walters, he said that he has always had a passion for men’s hairstyling and grooming and decided to make the move to get his barbering license two years ago because of how the lighting maintenance business has radically changed with all the new LED lighting technology. “Dad and I knew we would eventually work ourselves out of a job with all our existing lighting maintenance customers once we converted them all over to LED”, he said. He went on to say, “With LED lighting there are no bulbs to replace or ballasts and capacitors to change and since my dad has entered retirement age we decided we would drop the maintenance and installation part of the business. My dad would continue to sell products to customers and I would pursue barbering.” Jeff knew that it has been awhile since Walters has had a barbershop and thought it would be a good idea to open one here to save guys in Cotton County from having to drive to Lawton or Wichita Falls for a haircut.

Jeff is a graduate of the Professional Barbering Program at Tulsa Tech in Tulsa, OK which many professionals believe to be the best barbering school in the state. He and his shop are both licensed with the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. He says he strictly abides by all the state sanitation rules and regulations. He offers both classic and modern barbering services, which means along with haircuts he does the “old school” hot towel shaves as well as more modern services like gray hair blending, hair color, hair lightening and highlights. A regular haircut is $15, but if you are one of those guys who cuts his own hair to one length with a clipper, Jeff will give you an even-all-over “buzz cut” for $8 and take care of your neck line, eye brows and ear hair too! Unlike most independent barbershops who only take cash, Jeff takes all debit and credit cards in addition to Apple and Google pay. He just doesn’t take checks. His shop is handicap accessible and it has an ADA compliant restroom for your convenience. He says licensed barbers are trained not only to cut hair, but to help solve scalp and hair challenges which is why he believes in educating guys on their specific hair type and which products they should be using to keep their hair and scalp in the best possible condition. He sells REDKEN hair care products for men as well as wet shaving supplies from FINE Accoutrements. He also has a great line of beard balms and oils from Rocky Mountain Barber Company to keep your beard looking and smelling great.

He is open Tuesday-Friday 11AM-8PM, Saturday 8AM-4PM, and closed Sunday and Monday.Someweresurprisedto find out that he was going to be opensolateduringtheweek, but he says he does it to help guys whoworkorgotoschoolduring thedaytohavetheopportunityto getahaircutonaweekdayincase theywanttousetheirSaturday fordoingsomethingelse.Jeff’s tagline is, “It doesn’t matter if yourhairislong, short, curlyor straight.Giveusatryandyou’ll look great!”.
