OKLAHOMA CITY, May 26, 2020 — Family members and individuals living with mental illness are invited to access free support groups hosted online by NAMI Oklahoma affiliates. NAMI Oklahoma is the state organization of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Support groups, offered by NAMI Oklahoma affiliates in communities across the state, are free, confidential and safe groups for families and individuals who live with mental conditions. Trained individuals and families with lived experience facilitate all groups and online offerings.

“The goal of virtual support groups is to continue to support individuals, reassuring them that they are not alone during an unprecedented period for public health due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said James Bost, NAMI Oklahoma executive director. “Our services break the stigma of mental illness and prove that mental health recovery is possible. We also hope individuals who have not previously sought help but are now experiencing pandemic-related anxiety or depression will access what’s available online.”

Visit the NAMI Oklahoma website at https://www.namioklahoma.org/virtual-support-groups to find a NAMI Oklahoma affiliate in your area for specific schedules and sessions as they become available. All in-person meetings have been cancelled until further notice due to the pandemic.

Founded in 1985, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Oklahoma and its affiliates work to improve the quality of life for individuals and family members affected by mental illness through education, support, advocacy and outreach.
