Candidates for municipal office in one Cotton County municipalities will file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, December 7.
Shellie Hart, Secretary of the County Election Board, said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 9.
Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the County Election Board office for the indicated offices for each of the following municipalities:
City of Walters---Council Member Ward No. 1
City of Walters---Council Member Ward No. 3
THE COURTHOUSE IS CLOSED AT THIS TIME DUE TO COVID CONCERNS SO YOU WILL NEED TO CALL THE ELECTION BOARD OFFICE AT 580-875-3403 TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO FILE. PACKETS CAN BE DOWNLOADED AND FILLED OUT PRIOR TO COMING TO THE ELECTION BOARD OFFICE BY VISITING THE STATE ELECTION BOARD WEBSITE AT WWW.ELECTIONS.OK.GOV AND LOOKING UNDER THE CANDIDATE FILING TAB. REMEMBER: DECLARATION OF CANDIDACY FORMS MUST BE NOTARIZED AND YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FINDING A NOTARY.
The municipal offices at stake in Walters will be filled in the nonpartisan Primary Election scheduled February 9, 2021. If no candidate receives more than fifty percent of the vote, a General Election will be held on April 6, 2021, to decide the winner.
