Body

My name is Wes Eidson and I would appreciate your vote for City Council At-Large on February 11th.

For those who may not know me, I have lived in Walters for over 22 years. My wife, Kristie, and I have raised our children and our grandchildren here. Our boys graduated from Walters Public School and our grandchildren now attend Walters Public Schools. My wife also worked for Walters Public Schools for over 10 years until her health forced her to retire.

I bring a wealth of experience to this position having served for over 10 years as the Water Department Superintendent. In that ti me, I consistently attended City Council meetings for various issues and I am very familiar with the process, possibilities, and limitations of city government. In addition, I currently serve as Sheet Metal Superintendent for Brox Industries, LLC and have extensive experience in construction, personnel management, and achieving goals.

People ofter as me why I am running. The first and most important answer is my love for Walters. The second would be that I believe there needs to be change if we want to make our city better, stronger and safer. Watching the deterioration of Walters over the years has me concerned. We need to get more aggressive at rejuvenation so that our city can continue to thrive.

Le me say that the current administration and council have done a solid job of shoring up our finances. They have reduced our debt and we are now in the black. It has taken management, saving, and cutbacks for this to happen. Having said that, the time for holding back is over and it is time to move forward. It is time for change!

We need to improve the condition of our streets, address the drainage systems, clear the ditches and alley ways, address trimming trees back from power lines and ensure we have good quality infrastructure that can attract new businesses. We need to revitalize our historic downtown, revamp our established businesses and bring in new businesses. While the city does not own most of the building’s downtown, there should be incentives in place for building owners to cleanup, upgrade, or utilize their properties. There should actions taken for building not being maintained.

I continue to work with the Car Cruz, Youth Leagues, Mud Bog, concerts, fundraisers, sports, booster clubs, etc.in Walters and I know the great people who live here. That is the reason I wanted to run for the At-Large position so that the entire town would have a say in getting me elected. I believe none of us alone can do what all of us can do together.

Will you join me in working for a better Walters? Together we can make a difference.

Greetings Walters Citizens! My name is Roberta Sanders Ellis and I am pleased to confirm I am actively running for re-election for Walters City Council!

I will always speak on behalf of you, our Walters Citizens, as to what is needed to make our city a better place to live and raise our families. I have lived in Walters all of my life, graduating from Walters High School class of ‘86. I have served on the Walters School Board for 5 years as well as City Council for the past 6 years, serving as the first elected female council woman and first appointed female Mayor. I feel I have a vested interest towards continuing to carry out further development and sustainability!

I wish to take this time to highlight some of the positive outcomes our city has seen since becoming your City Council Member At Large. I have served 6 years for which I have served as Mayor the past 2 years.

The City of Walters had several Years of being in chronic debt and ending each month with a minimal balance. However, I have advocated and assisted towards paying off several items which were bing paid with a line of credit. We are now able to say that for the last 3 years our finances have become stable and continue to make progress.

In my time on the city council the city has seen the development of 12 new businesses, 8 of which have been in the last 3 years.

The Water Treatment issues have been resolved and there I no longer a need to send out quarterly reminders about poor water quality.

I have advocated conversations regarding land trust potential so we can do more events at Sultan Park as well as other city owned properties. This will increase potential revenue for the City as well as businesses in our community.

We are working towards remodeling the Library as well as preparing space within the Library for our Cotton County Museum. These will encourage our youth and families to continue involvement in maintain our historical information for years to come.

I was able to coordinate with our area Representative and spearhead the naming of the Comanche Code Talker Trail Way in November. I feel it was very important and long over due to recognize our community and our Comanche Tribal Citizens’ for the service to our country.

We have added Disc Golf at Sultan Park, which has increased traffic, brought in professional tournaments and bolster participation within the park over the past year and half. This has drawn the attention of professionals worldwide to our beautiful Sultan Park!

We have added a new sidewalk to Walters Youth Park as well as 15 new lights to promote more safety, activity, and future potential for the Youth Pard. Also, Ross Street around the ball park area has been resurface for higher traffic use.

In addition, I recently endorsed a $45,000.00 REAP Grant for a new Rescue Truck for our Walters Fire Department. It is replacing one that wasn’t reliable enough to make it where in needed to go.

I want you to know I will never promise something that is a “pie in the sky” dream and unrealistic for our City. I will advocate for improvements, growth and be a good stewards of your tax dollars month after month – year after year!

I would appreciate your vote February 11th for City Council At Large.
