Zell Best, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Best of Walters, was seriously injured last week while planting cotton on the farm of H. H. Hilbert, of the Hulen Community. While trying to get his stuck tractor out, he applied power sufficient to raise the front end of the machine from the ground. As the tractor came back against the planter, Best’s foot was caught between the planter lever and the machine, severely mashing his right heel...Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Bommer announce the birth of a son at their home Wednesday, June 19. He has been given the name Charles Allison after his grandfather...Walter Hubbell, local attorney, has moved his office from the American National Bank building, where he has been located for many years, to the second story of the Neel-Way building.

Mr. and Mrs. James Sanders resigned their teaching and administrative positions in the Walters school system Monday. They will go to Stillwater where he has been elected to the position of Junior High Principal...Since Cheri Sanders, High School Majorette, will not be in Walters school next year, Charles P. Hall, band director, promoted Betty Friels to that position... Now residing in Lawton are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mowatt, whose marriage vows were solemnized recently. The bride is the former Frankie Lou Sylvester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sylvester, of Walters...Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hoodenpyle announce the birth of a son, Ralph Wayne, June 11. The new mother is the former Miss Carol White...Mr. and Mrs. Clay Hart, Route 1 Walters, have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Idanelle, to Parker White, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Walker, of Dallas, Tex. They will be married June 17 at the Emerson Baptist Church.

John A. Penn, Editor and Publisher of The Walters Herald for the past 40 years, died this Tuesday afternoon, June 17 in a Lawton hospital after a short illness. He was 70 years old....Mrs. Marie Stark, of Randlett, received word Sunday of the birth of granddaughter, Kendra Marie, born to Dickie and Joy Stark, who are with the armed forces in Germany...A marriage license was issued to Roy D. Breeden, 36, and Susan Eschiti, 25, both of Walters...Rev. Joe Miller has been recently named as Associate Pastor of the Bible Baptist Church and Principal for the new Bible Baptist Academy.

Ens. Ervin E. Cullum, U.S.N.R., Temple, Okla., has received the Navy Air Medal, at the Eighth Naval District headquarters in New Orleans. The citation reads: “For meritorious achievement in serial flight as pilot of a plane in bomber fighting squadron 16, attached to the U.S.S. Randolph, during operations against enemy forces in the Japanese homeland from July 14 to 25, 1945.” Ens. Cullum, son of Mrs. R. E. Cullum, entered the navy in October, 1943. He is now a receiving and shipping clerk in Temple for Sears, Roebuck and Co.
