Final work on the three and one-half mile concrete slab on Highway 70 from Walters east to a point one-half mile east of the South Mt. View school was being completed this week. Approximately six and one-half miles of Black-Top have been laid on U. S. 70 and 277 from Walters west... Dee Olin Palmer of the Lincoln Valley Community, was painfully burned about the face Saturday while attempting to light a gas stove...Announcements have been received here of the recent weddings of two former residents of the Lincoln Valley Community, the sons of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Krisher. Russell Krisher and Miss Anna Mumglar of Tulsa were married at Tulsa, April 13. Henry Krisher and Miss Katy Page, Blanchard teacher, were married April 19.

Improvements are being made in the appearance of Walters Hospital and Clinic said Mrs. Margaret Hock, operator. New metal doors have been hung and new metal screens are to be added soon. Bids are also being taken for a central air conditioning system to add to the comfort of the patients and personnel...New 150,000 gallon elevated water storage tower, to be located just south of the south city limits of Walters, is on its way by rail from Birmingham, according to Ferrell Phillips, City Manager...Hugh F. Fitzsimons, local attorney, announced this week his candidacy for the office of County Attorney...Two Walters youth completed a four day trip to Chicago Sunday as an award in a subscription campaign by the Oklahoman and Times newspapers. Mrs. Virginia Norman, agent, said Glenn Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Smith, and Richard Thorne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thorne, joined carriers from over the state on the four day trip which began last Thursday...Keith Hooker and Roy Whitehead were inducted into the ranks of Junior Master Farmer at the annual state Future Farmers of America conference in Stillwater Thursday.

Commencement service for Big Pasture schools was held, Friday, May 12th. Sara Lewis and Tom John were Co-Valedictorians of the senior class, which Kim Eschler was Salutatorian...A marriage license was issued to Calvin Meredith, 35, and Beverly Smith, 26, both of Walters... Russell Harrison and Larry Ferguson, of Randlett, were chosen as State Farmers at the FFA convention in Oklahoma City...Danny Anderson of Big Pasture school has been selected as the 1980 Cotton County Teacher of the Year. Anderson has been employed at Big Pasture for the past six years, teaching all science related subjects for grades 7 through 12...A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Dowlen, April 26, in Duncan, and named Braylin John. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Dowlen and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ray Smith.

Miss Betty Lou Gunn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gunn of Temple Route 2, became the bride of Clarence Vache, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vache, also of Route 2, in a ceremony Saturday evening, July 19. Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Gunn, brother of the groom, were their only attendants...M. L. Monroe was taken to Savanah, Mo., Sunday for an examination. He has been failing in health for about a year.
