A huge leg bone, believed to be a part of the skeleton of a huge American mastedon, was uncovered in a gravel pit on the Briscoe place three miles north of Walters Tuesday by R. N. Bridges of Walters. The bone is 46 inches in length. It was covered under five feet of gravel and is petrified...Rev. J. T. Jones, pastor of the First Baptist Church at Tipton for the past seven years, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the First Baptist Church of Walters...Mr. and Mrs. Jack Willard announce the arrival of a baby boy at their home northwest of Walters on April 21. He has been named Roger Lynn. Mrs. Willard is the former Miss Thelma Flanagan.

Nolan Brooks was appointed Walters Fire Chief by the City Council Tuesday night to fill the vacancy made by the resignation of Willard Teakell on April 12...Cornerstone ceremony at Randlett Masonic Lodge will an event of May 4, at 4 p.m. W. H. Fuller is Worshipful Master, D. L. Alexander Secretary and Walton Manley Treasurer of the lodge. The cornerstone will be laid for the one story stone structure built over the remains of the old building which was destroyed by fire some time ago. Randlett and Devol lodges have combined to form one group with a membership of 140...The Randlett Church of Christ formed the setting for the wedding of Miss Shirley Ruth Farley and Donald Joe Brock, Friday, April 8. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Farley, Randlett, are parents of the bride...Mr. and Mrs. Joe Garrison, of Austin, Tex., are parents of a son, Joseph Craig, born April 20. The new mother is the former Miss Linda Norman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Athel Norman, Walters. Paternal grandmother is Mrs. Velma Langford.

Bob Bush has been selected as high school principal and athletic director for the 1980-81 school term by the Pioneer-Pleasant Vale school system, a consolidated school located ten miles southeast of Enid. Mr. Bush has been employed by the Walters school system for the past four years as football coach and assistant principal and athletic director... Deanna D. Gunnison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton M. Walker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, has been promoted to Senior Airman of Royal Air Force Base in Mildenhall, England, where she is an airfield management specialist. Her husband, Timothy W. Gunnison, of the same Air Base, has been promoted to Staff Sergeant. Deanna is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Grimes, of Walters.

A boy, who was named William Robert, was born June 30 to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Page, according to word received here by the young fellow’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George D. Page. Roy is now a co-pilot for the Trans-World Air, flying out of Chicago. His wife is residing at Wilkinsburg, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh...Taylor-Hunt post No. 162 of the American Legion elected the following officers in the annual election last week: Eldred Smith, commander; Norman Ellison, vice commander; Jack Irey, adjutant; John Ed Dowlen, finance officer; J. O. Vencill, sergeant at arms; Buel W. Samuel, historian; Harry E. Irey, chaplain; W. L. Burton, service officer. Officers elected by the Auxiliary are Mrs. Doyle Watkins, president; Mrs. Jim Jarrett, first vice president; Mrs. Dovie Whiteley, second vice president; Mrs. Dave Carden, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. Henri Greenlees, historian; Mrs. Eldred Smith, chaplain; Mrs. L. T. Tarkington, sergeant at arms.
