Walters, Oklahoma, June 17, 2020 - The Wild Urbans Farm owners, Bob and Elisabeth Kirchner, hosted the grand opening of their in-farm store on Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 8am to 5pm.

The Wild Urbans Farms, originated from a vision of two professional city urbanites who love farming. Bob is the vice president of field operations for a major transportation company. Elisabeth was a physician assistant with operating room credentials who changed career paths to the transportation industry.

“Two years ago we were newly in love, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee in a little French café. We talked of a shared love for great food and farming and seeing what the earth can produce”, said Elisabeth. “We shared our beliefs that no one is closer to the earth than farmers and it is important to care for natural resources including land and water. And, now here we are opening Oklahoma’s first in-farm store.”

Various methods have been implemented to produce fresh, clean food: plasticulture in the outdoor fields, greenhouses for the delicate crops and aquaculture for the fish and herbs. To be a good steward of the land, hydroponics is used to conserve water and the Angus cattle is raised on organic Bermuda grass.

“We have a vision of growth and want our customers to be a part of it”, said Bob. “We see ourselves following four stages of growth soon:

Stage one: Open Oklahoma’s nontraditional in-farm store. An in-farm store is where live food is still growing in a hydroponic system. Customers can pick from a variety of vegetables. Being on farm location, customers can be where the food is grown, bread is baked and honeybees fly.

Stage two: Add a bakery. We will have an assortment of fresh, homemade baked breads, pies and Amish donuts.

Stage three: Provide fresh catfish, crappie and bass from the aquaponic system and grass-fed Angus beef.

Stage four: Create a relaxing place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. Customers can enjoy our own branded cup of coffee and fresh-from-the-farm food while overlooking the pond or sitting by one of the many fireplaces.”

Share in stage one of this labor of love as the first crop is brought to the in-farm store. Items available for purchase are: tomato and pepper plants, tomatoes, herbs (cilantro, dill, parsley, rosemary, thyme), potatoes (red and Yukon) and onions (red and Vidalia) and lettuce. Plus, homemade bread, preserves and honey.
