Mrs. Maria Franco has been an educator for twenty years and is currently teaching in the Walters Public School system where she has received the honor of “Teacher of the Year” twice since joining the faculty twelve years ago. Mrs. Franco had been teaching in Hawaii when her husband retired from the military service and returned to Oklahoma and she was notified she had been hired to teach in Walters.

Mrs. Franco graduated from Central University in Puerto Rico and Cameron University, where she received her Certification of Arts in Education to teach Spanish to students from kindergarten to high school levels. An example of her dedication for educating her students Senora Franco and her classes have attended and participated in the Folkloric Ballet in Oklahoma City after they studied the culture and customs of the language she taught. Her love of teaching children of all ages is evident by the time she spends working extra with her students and encouraging them to be successful not only in Spanish class but other areas of their education.

Just recently she was selected “Teacher of the Month” for Walters High School an honor well-deserved. Mrs. Maria Franco has a passion for teaching and being a part of her students’ lives as she prepares them for their own future successes.
