Walters Chamber Of Commerce Met On October 21, 2019

The Walters Chamber of Commerce Board met on October 21st, 2019, at Noon, at the Walters Library, located at 202 N. Broadway in Walters, Oklahoma.  The meeting was called to order by Board President William McKay.

Board Members  Joi Bellamy, Benne Brewer, Sheri Davis, Lacy Edgmon,  Wes Eidson, Roberta Ellis, William McKay, and Brantley Tillery were present.  Board Members Jack Jacob, Dawn Schilling, Gina Suson, and Wendy Zimmerman were unable to attend.

Chamber Members Cherryl Good (WALTERS HOMETOWN GROCERY), Jena Good (WALTERS HOMETOWN GROCERY) Shawn Strange (WALTERS CITY MANAGER), Kaila Williams (COTTON ELECTRIC) were also present.

Visitor present was TONI HASENBECK, District 65 Representative

TONI HASENBECK, District 65 Representative, addressed the Board regarding ways to help rural towns thrive.

The Car Cruz committee addressed the Board regarding how the Cruz went, and the Board discussed possibly donating a portion of the proceeds to a local charity.  A motion was made and approved to table “possibly donating a portion of the proceeds to a local charity”.

Those that were able to participate in the Ribboncutting for BLUE DEVIL NUTRITION were scheduled to update the Board on how everything went.  (The Ribbon-cutting for COTTON BLOOM FLORIST will be Tuesday, Oct. 22nd at 5:30 (immediately followed by the Banquet Planning meeting).  The Ribbon-cutting for BUZZIN’ AROUND FLORIST will be Thursday, Oct. 29th at 5:30.)  The Board was scheduled to determine a budgeted amount to be spent on future Ribbon-cuttings.  A motion was made and approved to table “determining a budgeted amount to be spent on future Ribbon-cuttings”.

Regarding Business Advertising/Economic Development, Cherryl Good and Jena Good (WALTERS HOMETOWN GROCERY) addressed the Board with some wonderful ideas to boost Walters’ Businesses!   Lacy Edgmon (ARVEST BANK) addressed the Board regarding a 401K opportunity for small businesses here in Walters.  Details on both will be provided as they are made available.

Regarding new business, the possibility of FaceTime being made available to Chamber Members that are unable to attend the meetings was suggested.

The next regularly scheduled meeting is on Monday, November 18th, at Noon, at the Walters Public Library, 202 N. Broadway St.     WE’D LOVE TO SEE YOU THERE!! You do NOT have to be a Board Member, or even a Chamber Member, to attend!
