Sight Triangles

The safety of residents in our community should always be a priority. Many people do not realize the hazard they are causing their neighbors by not adhering to the general rule of “sight triangles”. Sight triangles are formed at intersecting roads with the third line of the triangle being the “sight” line that must be kept clear of obstructions that block the view of an approaching vehicle, pedestrian, or cyclist.

Common obstructions of the required sight triangles are bushes, hedges, fences, lawn ornaments and improperly parked vehicles. Since 1977 the City of Walters has had regulations about planting or allowing trees or shrubbery to grow in these areas and violators may be required to remove any obstruction. Parking in these areas is also prohibited and fines will be issued and the vehicle may be towed and impounded.

Any questions about sight triangles or to report an offending intersection, please call Code Enforcement, City Hall, 875-3337.
