Walters High School Lady Devils got 2nd place in the Temple Softball Tournament

The Walters Lady Devils softball team started off hot in the opening round of the Temple Fast pitch Tournament on Thursday. The Lady Devils bested Ryan 15-0. Grace Myers and Samantha Scott led the way on offense with two hits apiece. Trista Ford was the winning pitcher allowing only one hit in the game. With a two game break the Lady Devils faced off with Big Pasture in the winner’s bracket. The Lady Devils watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 3-2 loss to Big Pasture. Big Pasture took the lead on a single in the first inning. The pitching was strong on both sides. Big Pasture’s pitcher struck out seven, while Walters Lady Blue Devils sat down three. Harli Clem pitched Big Pasture to victory. She went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Tournament play picked back up on Saturday. The Lady Devils had their work cut out for them having to climb back through the loser’s bracket. The first game had Walters against #17 in class B Grandfield. The pitching was strong for Walters as Ford only allowed one hit as the Lady Devils won 8-0. The Lady Devils notched four runs in the third inning.  Emily Robinson and Jenna Johnson powered the big inning with RBIs. Jenna Johnson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Walters in hits. The next game Walters faced Chattanooga. Walters didn’t let up and defeated Chattanooga 5-0. Walters got things moving in the first inning when an error scored one run for the Lady Blue Devils. Ford led Walters with two hits in three at bats. In the third place game Walters faced off with Bray Doyle. Trista Ford threw a shutout to lead Walters Lady Blue Devils past Bray-Doyle 5-0. She lasted five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four. Allie Powers,  Emily Robinson,  Ford, and Kenzie Thurman each collected one hit to lead Walters Lady Blue Devils .  Walters was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.  Powers had the most chances in the field with eight. Walters did a great job fighting through the losers bracket to face Big Pasture again in the championship game but would finally succumb to the fatigue and long day as Big pasture defeated them 10-3. Walters Lady Blue Devils fell behind early and couldn't come back to Big Pasture. Big Pasture scored on a double by Jordyn Tinsley, an error, and a groundout by Kate Laminack in the first inning. The Walters Lady Blue Devils struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Big Pasture, giving up ten runs. Big Pasture got on the board in the first inning when Tinsley doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Big Pasture scored four runs in the seventh inning.  Maddison Rivers,  Laminack,  Jayni Green, and Amber Glover all drove in runs in the frame. Harli Clem was the winning pitcher for Big Pasture. She surrendered three runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking zero. Trista Ford was in the pitcher's circle for Walters Lady Blue Devils . She surrendered four runs on three hits over four innings, striking out seven.  Drew Edmonds threw three innings out of the bullpen. Allie Powers went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Walters Lady Blue Devils in hits.
