Last Sunday night the new electric light plant at Essaquanahdale was tried out for the first time and all were pleased with it. They now have lights in both schoolhouse and teacherage, as well as in the yard where the cars are parked...The Rev. J. T. Jones, pastor of the Baptist church in Walters, will be included in the next publication of “Who’s Who in the Clergy.” This publication is a biographical encyclopedia of eminent clergymen representing the important denominations in America. This is the second time Rev. Jones has been listed in the book...A permit to practice undertaking in Texas has been secured by the Harley-Pearson funeral home, under the new law in that state requiring a license of all practitioners.

New titles were taken by some officers of the Walters National Bank on Saturday, October 15. B.R. Stephens of Elgin, who has previously been identified as president of the bank, is now chairman of the board. John R. Reynolds, who for years has been executive vice-president, now wears the title of president. His son, John P. Reynolds, who has been a vice-president of the bank, has been extended the title of executive vice-president...Wedding vows were solemnized for Miss Nancy Kerr and John James Fitzsimmons, Saturday, October 8 in the First Baptist church, Walters. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kerr, Walters...Mr. and Mrs. Harry Joe Adkins, Stillwater, have chosen the name Joe Craig for their son born Sunday, October 9. The new mother is the former Miss Carrie Ellen Townsend... John Howard, county farmer, was named this week to the position of custodian of the county courthouse left vacant by the death Saturday of his brother, Will Howard...St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Walters formed the setting for the nuptial ceremony when Miss Carlene Williams, Temple, became the bride of Allen Klein, Newell, S. Dak., Saturday, October 15...Miss Saundra Sue Russell, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W.E. Russell of Walters, and Donald H. Gerhart, were married Saturday, October 15, in the Walters First Baptist church.

Cynthia Lea Johnsey and Darrell Keith Hanza were joined in matrimony October 10 in the First Baptist church in Geronimo. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson, of Geronimo. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruby Hanza, of Lawton...Sheriff Paul McKown resigned his position Thursday morning, October 16, at an emergency meeting of the County Commissioners, citing insufficient funds and personnel to run the department. The general election will be held November 4, at which time the commissioners may install the newly elected sheriff ahead of the normal January 1st date...Commander Bill Dobbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen I. Dobbs, of Temple, was recently named Commanding Officer of his unit, VP-92 at the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth, Mass.

Bill Wren, who has been operating the Majestic Theatre on a lease arrangement for the past month, announced this week that he had closed the theatre. Wren said that the show was merely breaking even and that he could not support himself and family on that basis...W. S. Woods, 84-year-old father of Mrs. O. E. (Bud) Wiser, broke his right hip in a fall Tuesday.
