A complete new gin has been announced by Lon Sawyer, manager of the Sawyer Gin, which has just been finished after a complete overhaul and new equipment replacements over the entire plant. Lon Sawyer is managing the gin while his brother, J. T., is confined with illness... Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hannabas are parents of a daughter, born September 18...Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Bryant are parents of a daughter, Billy Joyce, born September 17... Frank Smith of the Prospect community was very unfortunate last Saturday when he accidently lost his fourth and fifth fingers off of his left hand...Mr. Jess Kinniard, who has been the owner and proprietor of the River Valley Grocery in the Rabbit Creek community for some time, has sold his interest to Mr. Dilbeck of Taylor...Charlse Whittle of Devol is recovering from a severe hand burn which he received last week while tarring a roof. Whittle slipped while putting on the roof dressing, and fell with his hand in the hot tar. The building upon which he met with the accident houses a restaurant managed by him.

Miss Judy Wood became the bride of Harry Tarplay in a Sunday afternoon ceremony in the First Baptist church in Devol. The bride was presented in marriage by her four brothers, Ernie, Al, Edwin and Jack. Attending her sister as matron of honor was Mrs. Joy Green, of Midland, Texas...Homer Robison, oil field pumper, received a broken jaw and several teeth knocked out Tuesday afternoon in an oil field accidnet southwest of Temple. He was attempting to light the fire box on an oil treater when it exploded, hurling him some 30 to 40 feet. A bolt on the fire box door broke his upper left jaw and knocked out some upper left teeth...Miss Myrtle House, Walters third grade teacher, was named Cotton county Teacher of the Year. Miss House has taught 29 years, 15 of which have been in the Walters system...Walters high school band directed by Charles P. Hall, will present a special show, “From Jungle to Jive,” at halftime of the Walters-Tipton football game Friday night at the local stadium. Hall said two sets of square dancers have been added to the show for this performance.

John Cunningham was the attendant in the turnpike toll booth west of Walters Sunday morning around 1:30 a.m., when a Missouri trucker, loaded with glass, plowed through the north bound lane and wiped out the booth and other equipment. Cunningham said he heard the truck and attempted to flag him down and then abandoned the booth and headed for cover behind one of the concrete pillars. The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital with cuts on their heads and faces. Thankfully, John was uninjured...Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Karty announce the marriage of their daughter, Debra Kay, to Charles Keith Kerchee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Ray Kerchee, on Saturday, September 20th, at the Emerson United Methodist church... Miss Lisa Best and Mr. Ronald D. Ables exchanged wedding vows Friday, September 13, in the First United Methodist church in Walters. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Best. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ables, all of Walters...Elmer Graham, Cotton county native, recently returned to W alters after climbing the Matterhorn, a thirty-year-old dream, “an adventure I’ll never forget.” he said. The Matterhorn stands 14,685 feet high on the boundary between Italy and Switzerland.

The office of the Temple Tribune was moved into the First State bank building late last week, where it will remain until the new office building being built just west of the Beasley Paint store is completed...Mr. and Mrs. Ray Waller announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Frances Estelle, to Harold Zachary, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.
