Because of a gift of one building and the purchase of the adjoining building on South Broadway, the Masonic Lodge No. 530, Walters, is now the owner of a new home which is rapidly being repaired and remodeled into a modern meeting hall. Judge J. W. Brooks, who owned the first building, not only gave the building, but also gave money to repair and remodel it...Mr. and Mrs. Orville Gay, of the Emerson Community, have a new daughter, Dorothy Lavonne, born August 21...Born to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fletcher of the Beaver Ridge Community, on August 18, a son...The marriage of Mrs. Willie Etta Higdon and Judge Roy Norman was solemnized Tuesday night of last week...Business was at a stand-still in Walters between the hours of 2 and 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon while the citizenship joined with an entire nation in paying tribute to the memory of two of Oklahoma’s most illustrious sons, Will Rogers and Wiley Post, who lost their lives in an airplane accident in Alaska. Wiley Post was the brother of Walters businessman, Joe H. Post.

Hayes wish to announce the marriage of their daughter, Juanita June, to Charles Ray Sartain, of Lawton. The couple were united in marriage on the 28th of July at Vernon, Texas...Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Rogers, El Paso, Texas, announce the birth of a daughter July 26, named LaDonna Rhea...Mr. and Mrs. Leon Wilson, Tulsa, announce the birth of a daughter August 13, named Trish LeAnn...A wedding shower was given August 12 at the Hulen Methodist Church to honor Miss Judith Susan Ford, who was married to Mr. Dale Schafer July 30...Enrollment of students at Hulen school, northeast of Walters, will be an event of Friday, September 2, said Mrs. Doris Wilkins, teacher. Mrs. Wilkins said lunchroom cook at Hulen would be Mrs. Esther Murphy...Willard W. Teakell died at his home in the city Wednesday after a lingering illness. He was 54 years of age. For 14 years he served with the Walters Fire Department. For the first two years he was Assistant Chief, and during the remaining 13 was Chief of the Department. Ill health forced his retirement in March of this year.

Wedding vows were exchanged August 16 in the First Baptist Church in Temple between Miss Melody Ann Bowers and Eugene Cooke. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Bowers II, of Temple. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cooke, Jr., of Lawton...Suzanne Kay Holman and Mark Leroy Steadman were united in marriage Saturday, August 9 in the Saint Louis Catholic Church of Austin, Texas. The bride is the daughter ofMr. and Mrs. Bill Holman, ofWalters...Mr. and Mrs. Mike Weed, of Oklahoma City, announce the arrival of a new son born August 13, and named Russell William. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Strailey, ofWalters, and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Weed, of Eufaula...Chris Kelley’s interest and background in machinery and farm equipment has netted him an expense paid trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago November 28 - December 5. Kelley, the 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kelley, Rt. 3, Walters, is the state’s 1980 4-H automotive Project winner and will travel to the Windy City courtesy of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.

Col. Dan H. Yeilding, Washington, D.C., and Walter Yeilding, student at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Yeilding here last weekend. Colonel Yeilding is on the war department staff in Washington. He is a nephew of W. A. Yeilding...Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Leseney of Atlantic City, N. J., arrived in Temple and is now visiting with home folks, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Noblitt. Leseney has served eight years in the U. S. Navy. He received his discharge October 31, 1947...Alton Smith has opened a used car business in Temple. The used car lot is located on Commercial Avenue in the main business section of town, across the street from the theatre... Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Norman are the parents of an eight pound boy born Sunday at a Duncan hospital.
