Traffic between Cotton County and Texas was at a standstill this week as continued high water in Red River forced a postponement of efforts to repair river bridges at Burkburnett and Charley, several spans of which were washed out in the flood two weeks ago...Mrs. Carl T. Johnson has leased the Lines Hotel from Mrs. Anna Lines and will operate the hotel in the future...Tom Crouch has opened the Anton’s Superior Home-Made Ice Cream Parlor in the building first door north of the Community Natural Gas Co. office...The wedding of Miss Mildred Bowles and S. B. Keeter was solemnized Sunday immediately following the worship service in the Methodist Church in Temple. Miss Bowles is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Bowles of the Union Valley Community. Mr. Keeter is the son of Mrs. Mae Adams, living nine miles south of Temple.

On Monday of last week during a thunderstorm, a barn was struck by lightning on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kinnaird, of Randlett, and was completely destroyed with 400 bales of hay...A custom combine operator from the north was moving a combine loaded onto a truck along the 100 block of North Broadway. It was excessively high, and came in contact with a wire stretched across the street between two poles. Force of the pull snapped the pole on the east side of the street, sending it crashing to the pavement. Fortunately, there were neither cars nor people in the path of the falling timber...Construction work has begun on a new gymnasium on the south of the main Temple school plant. Remodeling of the auditorium has also begun. This includes complete remodeling of the interior, moving the stage back, a new concrete floor, and new seats to be installed in a semi-circular arrangement...Jay F. Smith, county superintendent, was the speaker when Ahpeatone school held its eighth grade commencement exercises in the auditorium Monday night, May 16.

Fletcher, of Walters, is enrolled in the Master of Music program at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond...Mitchell Dennis, Temple school teacher was named Teacher of the Year for Temple High School. This is his third year at Temple...Miss Vicky Robinson and Mark Scott exchanged wedding vows Saturday, May 24, in the Country Estates Baptist Church in Midwest City. The bride is the daughter of James M. and Mrs. Robinson, of Midwest City. The groom is the son of Earl D. and Mrs. Scott, of Walters.

Carol Jean was born Wednesday, August 18, to Mr. and Mrs. John W. Powell of Temple...Mrs. Charles Luja spent last weekend at Thomas with her relatives. She visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Heaton; her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Heaton; and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jackson, and her niece and nephew, Margaret and Robert Jackson...Mrs. Harvey McCormick of Julesburg, Colo., was in Temple Friday visiting her grandmother, Mrs. E. M. Bymun. Mrs. McCormick has been at Ada for two weeks visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bynum.
