C. O. Hooper and Chas. W. Crooks have opened a new tractor and implement business in Walters, located in the old Buick building on East Colorado. They will handle John Deere and Allis-Chalmers tractors and a full line of parts...Bert Powers, formerly a partner of Vernon Davis in the Kwick-Way Service Station, purchased the Conoco Service Station and Broadway and Missouri from Truman Clements...Roy Bull was sworn into office as County Judge to succeed Judge Thomas J. Huff...Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lawler of Brawley, Calif., are the parents of a baby girl born January 8. She was named Bessie Oleta. Mrs. Lawler is the former Miss Irene Gilbreath of Walters, and is a sister of Mrs. James Ballard...Miss Inez Sylvester of Walters became the bride of Richard Howard of Lawton January 9 at Lawton.

Mr. and Mrs. Funston Flanagan are the parents of a son, Mark Gregory, born January 12, at a Lawton hospital...Miss Mary Meek became the bride of Merrell Dilks in a ceremony solemnized January 9 in the First Methodist Church of Moore. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Dilks, Walters, are parents of the bridegroom. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Meek of Marietta, and is home demonstration agent at Okemah...Mr. and Mrs. Richard Allen, Walters, have chosen the name Eric for their son born January 8. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Turner and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Stimpson, both of Walters...Boy Scout Troop 103, sponsored by the Walters Lions Club, it to be reactivated Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Teen Canteen building. Vernon Broberg has been selected Scoutmaster, with Rev. Snyder, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and Clayton Fields as his assistants.

E. L. Standridge suffered a broken left shoulder Thursday morning of last week when he stepped from a steel fallout shelter his company makes, to a six-foot stepladder and fell, striking the cement floor at the Temple Steel Works building. He was welding on the top of the structure...Lisa Petty and Craig Flanagan have been chosen Mr. and Miss W.H.S. for 1979-80...John and Lena Pierce celebrated their 70th year of marriage January 15. Mrs. Pierce was the former Lena Ogla. She and her sister, Anna Belle Ogla were married on the same day. Anna Belle married Bert Evans, both now deceased. The Pierce’s lived in Temple for many years, then Duncan for 13 years, and just recently moved back to Temple...Miss Brenda Gale Morris and Bobby Gene Sides were married January 11 in the First United Methodist Church chapel. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest D. Morris and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Sides, both of Walters...D & D Automotive, owned by Donnie Blackburn, is now open for business at 119 E. Kansas Street.

Miss Martha Isabelle Reid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grant S. Reid, pioneer residents of Grady, became the wife of Edward B. Colston of Alex, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Colston of Temple, on March 26 in Grady...Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Trammell left last weekend for California after a visit here with his uncle, A. R. Trammell. J. R. is Chief Commissary Steward in the navy and had just returned to the U. S. after six months’ service in Okinawa. He received shrapnel and machine gun wounds in the battle of Pearl Harbor, but had the satisfaction of scoring seven vital hits against Jap planes. He hopes to remain in the navy 20 years.
