Harvest Time

Praying for our country, and I know many of you are as well. This land needs to turn to Jesus!

Here in southwestern Oklahoma the wheat harvest is well underway. . Trucks and combines are busy running many long hours without much of a break. Yields are yet to be determined, as we evaluate the late freeze. There were sure a lot of acres baled for hay as there was little grain in the head. This is my annual harvest article.

Once headed, the healthy crop basically goes through four basic stages: green, turning, ripe, and decay. Harvest is most effective at the ripe stage.

Jesus tells us in John 4:35:

…Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the field , that they are white for harvest.

Matt 9:37-38

37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.

38 “Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” (nasb)

Jesus is telling His followers that now is the time to go! The fields are white; it’s time to bring in the harvest!

Jesus came to earth to gather His church and he compares it to a man who plants a wheat field, only to find that few want to go into the fields to harvest. In today’s terms, it would be the same if farmers and custom harvesters don’t show up with their combines to quickly and efficiently harvest the crop.

Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful!”

There are people to reach; there is a work to be done. And the danger ahead for the church of 2020 is that for some reason, we have become complacent concerning the harvest and especially for those who have been left in the field to decay in this world. Folks, it’s time to harvest!

We Christians tend to get wrapped up in our own work, our own fun, our own recreation, our own leisure time and then we wonder why there are no workers for the harvest! We forget to put Jesus first. As we read these verses, we see that Jesus is mixing with the people. He sees His mission field as being ripe unto the harvest. The wheat fields in this area are becoming ready to be harvested! The crews have now arrived and are itching to get the work done! And they will.

But what about today’s church? What are we doing? Jesus didn’t just focus on the disciples or his inner circle of friends, but He looked out and saw a field ripe to be harvested. And He was moved with compassion. He saw their need! After all, He came to save!

Many do not realize their need for Christ, but they are searching. He saw that they would soon run out of the success “me” can give. Yes, the pleasures of this world will run out, the good times will stop, the self-sufficiency will run be gone, their health will fail, death is inevitable, and judgment is sure.

But what can I do? I’m only one person. God the Son gave His life so that the harvest could go forth! Jesus died so the perishing would be saved. He died so sinners would be forgiven. He removed the chains. It’s time for the Lord’s Army to the fields! We need to pray and get to work. And remember, nothing is accomplished without the Holy Spirit. Jesus didn’t turn away because there were too many to deal with. NO! Jesus wants us to roll up our sleeves and get to work in the harvest! Let’s do it! Pray for the workers as we go forth to bring in the folks that need Jesus!

And be in prayer for the workers of the wheat harvest as we work to bring in the wheat crop!

Choose Jesus, choose life and let your light shine! And find a Bible believin’ church where you “fit in” and know, grow, and follow Christ! Tell others! See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! And pray for rain; other crops and grass need to grow!
