Here for a Reason

I am still in the field, so here is one of my favorites…

A Jesus lovin’ cowboy friend of mine once lost his favorite Bible whilst he was out fixin’ fence. Some may have heard me tell this one in a sermon. He rode back to where he last spent the night and it wasn’t there. He looked everywhere. His Bible was nowhere to be found.

Three weeks later, an ole’ longhorn Hereford cross cow walked up to him carrying the Bible in her mouth. The cowboy couldn`t believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the cow`s mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, “IT`S A MIRACLE!”

“Well, not really,” said the longhorned hereford. “Your name is written right there inside the front cover! The hard part was finding you! I asked everybody I came across and finally your boss told me you was camped up here.” Now, some of y’all might think that story is fiction.

There is nothing one can do here on this rock we call earth that is more important than changing the direction you’ve been headed and follow Jesus! Without Him, everything else in life is futile at best! In order to explain that statement I’ll ask you another question: “Do you ever wonder why God made you?”

Slim might say, “Well, I was put here to ride my pony and punch cows.” Some will have their own answers and others won’t have a clue. God has a reason for you to be here and it would be a big help if you knew why. If you are a child of His, then you should know that a big chunk of why you are here is to share Jesus with a lost world.

In John 9, Jesus encounters a man who had been blind since birth. The disciples asked Jesus, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

And Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” (nasb)

Then Jesus spit on the ground making mud and applied the mud to the blind man’s eyes and told him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.” So he did. This man was born blind so that at a certain place and time, he would encounter Jesus and the works of God would be displayed through him.

Have you ever stopped to think about why you were born? Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe God has a specific plan for your time on the earth? Have you ever wondered why you have a certain gift, or even a problem or affliction? Maybe it’s just to glorify God.

I think of people like Joni Eareckson Tada, the paralyzed painter and speaker for Christ; and Corrie ten Boom, who rescued so many Jews during the holocaust. And there are others who are taking a stand for Christ! Putting Jesus first is why we were sent here in the first place!

If you don’t have an answer for the question, (WHY AM I HERE?), then I encourage you to turn to God and find out. If you don’t know Him, then it’s a matter of turning from who you are and believing in and following Jesus. And if you don’t know how, this writer would consider it the upmost privilege to help you turn to Christ. A believer would be so glad to help you in this!

We are all born for a reason. Turn to God and know Christ and know life.

John 10:9-18, Jesus said, “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (nasb)

Choose Jesus, choose life and let your light shine! And find a Bible believin’ church where you “fit in” and know, grow, and follow Christ! Tell others! See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! And pray for rain.
