Prayer: Over a Lifetime Our Time Saver

Will we ever learn what God intends? We will if we listen. Little Johnny started the first grade and when he returned home after the first day, his mother asked him “Son, did you learn anything today? “I guess not Mom, the teacher told me I have to come back tomorrow and the next day, and the day after that and….

Such is the case with trying to learn the Bible. Understanding comes a little at the time over a lifetime. James 1: 25 says: “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” You see, the Bible is not a newspaper or magazine to just be skimmed over but an abundant source knowledge, instructions, wisdom and blessings, commands, etc. and we must read and follow as it says. It is our roadmap, our GPS so to speak for life.

Proverbs 2: 4 says: “If thou sleekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures.” And we need to do this today, tomorrow, the next day and every other day after that.

Let me ask you this. What do you think about when you wake up in the mornings? Are your thoughts instantly focused on the day’s activities ahead of you, or are they centered on the Lord? Although most of us have busy lives that occupy most of our time and attention, the most important and time – saving part of the day is that time spent in quiet solitude with God. Just you and the Lord, no one else. Mind is spent most mornings in my office beginning at 5:45 AM until we finish, usually sometime around 7 AM. Sometimes a little less, sometimes more, but that my quiet time with God. You would be surprised what we get accomplished in that hour or so.

Many believers feel so rushed that they don’t think there’s any time for the Lord. They immediately jump on the treadmill of life and then wonder why they’re so frustrated, confused, and dissatisfied. Now folks, don’t get me wrong preacher has roadblocks to come up in front of them also, our lives is not always a smooth road all the time. Remember, we are human also. But even if there is a desire to follow God, some don’t know where He’s going since they haven’t stopped to get direction for the day. They may also be disconnected because they’ve failed in or ignored their relationship with Him. No one, not even preachers can have intimacy with the Lord without daily communications.

Perhaps the problem could be our own human logic. We think spending time reading the Bible and praying each morning will result in having less time and lower productivity. But that’s not necessarily true, you see when we seek the Lord’s direction and wisdom for the day and ask Him to control or lives, He will accomplish more through us than we can do by ourselves. He’ll give us the wisdom to make good decisions, increase our strength and energy, and free us from any time wasting stress or anxiety.

So ask yourself this question. Am I too busy for the Lord? If you are, then you are denying yourself the blessing of an intimate relationship with Christ. When you make time for Him, He will fill you with peace, joy, guide your decisions, give you wisdom, empower you to obey, make you more productive, and comfort you with His love. And please remember this, God is not going to put more on your shoulders than what you can handle.
