With soft strains of organ selections providing a musical background, Miss Linda Jo Urice pledged double ring vows with Chester Elroy Phillips in rites solemnized in the Hulen Methodist Church, Friday, June 24... Billy George Eder, 31, of Walters, was seriously injured and three others sustained cuts and bruises in a three-car smashup during a rainstorm Wednesday morning on U. S. 277, 8.7 miles south of Lawton...Willie Mae (Bill) Otis, who was appointed Justice of Peace of Walters district when it had no particular appeal as a full-time business, won her first race for the office Tuesday over N. F. (Speck) Sanders...Mr. and Mrs. Bob Philpott, Walters, have chosen the name Lori Ruth for their daughter born July 2... Rev. and Mrs. Arbuary Ritter, Cookietown, announce the birth of their second child, a daughter, born Thursday, June 23... The home of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Simpson was the scene of a Fourth of July dinner and get-together with the five sisters of Mr. Stimpson. Present for the occasion were Mrs. Myrle Doran, Walters, Mrs. Alta Coon, Anthony, Kan., Mrs. Harriett Ross, Mrs W. T. Potter and Mrs. Golden Roberts, all of Stillwater...Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Vardell, Linda and Gary, have returned to Walters to make their home. Mr. Vardell recently retired from the U. S. Marine Corps after having completed 20 years of service... Sgt. and Mrs. R. Vardell, Monnie and Kevin, who have been residing in San Clemente, are visiting friends and relatives in this area. Sgt. Vardell has received overseas orders and Belva and the children will make their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tedo Mullins, of Temple.

Dr. Don C. Davis assumed duties as 15th president of Cameron University July 1. Dr. Davis attended school in Walters before graduating from Lawton High School in 1961. His father, Clarence L. Davis, was Superintendent of Walters schools, and became president of Cameron in 1957... Miss Tamra Lynn Thomason and Billy Gene Ables exchanged wedding vows June 27, in the Sullivan Village Church of Christ. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thomason, of Lawton, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ables, of Walters... Double ring wedding vows were exchanged Saturday, June 28, between Miss Becky Rene Hartman and Billy Carl Parkey. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hartman, of Walters. Parents of the groom are Harold Parkey, of Temple, and Mrs. Betty James, of Burkburnett... A pre-dawn fire did extensive damage to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ringener in the 100 block of East Nebraska in Walters. Damages will probably run well over $20,000, Mr. Ringener said. He was alone in the house at the time the fire broke out, as his wife was in Tyler, Texas, visiting relatives.

Fire completely destroyed the farm home of Odis Vantine, three and one-quarter miles northeast of Temple Thursday night, October 2. Mrs. Vantine was in the hospital seriously ill at the time of the fire. Mr. Vantine and their six children escaped the fire with only the clothes on their backs... The Travelers Hotel has taken on a new appearance with a new coat of white stucco on the outside, with red trimmings. Mrs. L. A. Beck said this week that a new sign will be erected, and an interior remodeling program carried out... Another new business in Temple is Pack’s Cafe, located two doors north of the Majestic Theatre. John Pack and son, Johnny, have purchased the former Powell Cafe... Dale Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cheque Wilson, former Temple residents, appears in the film, “Bachelor and the Bobby Soxers,” which showed at Duncan last week.
