Carl Keeter, former Cotton County boy and nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie B. Keeter of the Keeter Community, south of Temple, is rapidly making a name for himself in high school athletics at Boulder, Colo., where he has been attending school this year. Carl’s latest achievement was pitching a no-hit, no-run baseball game in the Boulder American Legion Junior League. In addition, Carl also starred in high school basketball at Boulder. Last year he played forward on the Keeter team in the Cotton County tournament...The marriage of Miss Maurice McCullough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. McCullough, Grandfield, and Clay Claiborne, son of Mrs. W. C. Claiborne, Walters, was an event of February 28 at Chickasha...Mr. and Mrs. Jack Copeland have announced the arrival of a baby daughter at their home here Tuesday, May 7. They have given her the name Sylvia Carol.

Gilbert was pastor at the Indian church 27 years before retiring in 1951...Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chemah, Walters, are parents of a daughter, Tonya Kay, born Monday, May 8...Miss Pat Kindred became the bride of Ronnie Carter Friday, May 6, in the home of Mrs. Bertha Kindred, mother of the bride...Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ray, Lawton, have chosen the name Pamela Jo for their daughter born Friday, May 6. Mrs. Ray is the former Miss Edna Jo Bridges... Army Capt. DeWitt Adkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Adkins, Walters, recently completed the 19-week associated officer advanced course at the Infantry School, Ft. Benning, Ga....More than 300 persons visited the recent flower show staged by the Rose and Dahlia units of the Walters Garden club in conjunction with the SW Okla. section of the American Iris Society. Mrs. Ed Kurtz won sweepstakes in the iris section with 10 blue ribbons, and she also won sweepstakes in the artistic section.

Mrs. Beatrice McClendon was treated May 8 with a covered dish dinner at the Community Center in Devol honoring her retirement from the Post Office after serving twenty years and six months as postmaster...Lena Durrett, member of the Cotton County Art Council, received “Best of Show” award Saturday, May 10, during the Sidewalk Art Show in Waurika...Temple Tigers basketball standout, Jerry McClellan, has been selected to play in the East-West game of the Southern Eight Conference May 24 in the Cameron University fieldhouse...Max Parrish, Jr., of Walters, won first place Saturday, May 10, in the photography division in the Sidewalk Art Show in Waurika...Michelle Thomas and Michael Gatlin were named Best All Around at Temple High School.

A son was born Friday, August 8, at Wichita Falls, to Mr. and Mrs. Pete Gunn. The young fellow’s name is Harold L. Gunn, Jr...Last Saturday afternoon, Miss Betty Ratliff became the bride of Kenneth McKinney in the Baptist parsonage. Miss Juanita Ratliff served her sister as bridesmaid. Mrs. McKinney is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Ratliff. Mr. McKinney is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKinney...A. A. Young who has been operating the Temple Tavern on East Main street since the first of the year, sold the business last week to Ramey & Hubbart of Lawton. The place is being operated by Thurman Smith, also of Lawton.
