Social Security Matters

Dear Rusty: In 2019 I was out of work for an extended period. I was eligible to begin receiving retirement benefits (at age 63) and started to do so in August. My part time job was limited so it did not conflict with my Social Security amount, but in October through the end of 2019 I went back to my old industry at four times the pay rate. My understanding is that I will need to pay Social Security back about $1.40 for every benefit dollar they have paid me while I worked at the higher wage. When and how is that paid? Need Help Making a Decision?

I have had numerous conversations with people that have wanted to know “God’s will” in a particular situation. They wanted to know what God wanted them to do in a specific situation as if they were afraid that a wrong decision or wrong direction would cause them to be placed outside of God’s protection and provision. Some people I have encountered in this situation have been so paralyzed by their fear of making the wrong decisions, they simply chose to do nothing rather than do something wrong. The questions raised by this attitude are many, but the motives are pure, if not a little misguided.

Get Counted

Enshrined in Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitution is the mandate that the nation’s population get counted every 10 years. Since 1790, this undertaking, known as the U.S. Census, has occurred at the start of every decade. Though the process has evolved and been streamlined over more than two centuries, the success and accuracy of every census ultimately rests with participation. While the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted and delayed a great many things this year, the 2020 U.S. Census is still underway, and your engagement is critical and requires very little effort.

Here’s one of my favorites from years past... An old rancher was sittin’ on the porch in his rockin’ chair and watched as the stranger come ridin’ up the road.
