Charles Horton has purchased a half interest in the Marathon Service Station and will be associated with L. T. Clements in the operation of this business...The marriage of Miss Opal Harris and Burl Abel was solemnized Thursday morning, Dec. 26. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Harris, and will reside at Wetumka...Miss Frances Pearl Campbell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Campbell of Temple, and William Maxwell, of Duncan, were married married Dec. 26...The home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rowan in the Pleasant Valley community was destroyed by fire Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Thurman of Walters will be honored on the occasion of their Golden Wedding with an open house at their home on January 8. James J. Thurman and Ova Ava Jones were married January 8, 1911 in Bellview, Texas. They came by train to this county immediately after the wedding and moved into the home on the farm in the Union Valley community which Mr. Thurman had acquired in the Big Pasture Opening...Perry Stogner, production supervisor for Graham Oil company, was in good condition at St. Anthony’s hospital, Oklahoma City, following a four-hour surgery to correct the injury to nerves in his lower neck and upper spine...Army Specialist Four Kenneth R. Renegar, whose wife, Geneva, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Renegar, live on Route 1 Walters, recently arrived in Greenland and is now a member of the 55th Artillery at Thule Air Force Base...Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lee Hefler, Lake Charles, La., have chosen the name Shelton Lynn for their son born Dec. 22. Mrs. Hefler is the former Melba Jean Evans, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. John J. Evans, Lawton. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hefler, Temple, are the paternal grandparents.

Miss Pamela J. Cain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Cain, Walters, and Edward D. Tittle, son of Mrs. Ruby Tittle, Hawthorne, Calif., exchanged wedding vows, Saturday, December 20, in the First United Methodist church... Winners have been announced in the drawings used in the issue of the Walters Herald greetings ads. Entries were judged by Cotton County Art Council Judges. First place winner was Eddie Smart. Second place was captured by Kenya Davis and third place winner was Andy Holcombe... Mr. and Mrs. Abel Williams will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary January 4, in the Fellowship hall of the First Baptist church in Chattanooga. Mr. and Mrs. Williams were married January 4, 1931, at the parsonage of the First Baptist church in Frederick. They have farmed in the Chattanooga community all their married life...A daughter, Holly Beth, was born to Ernie and Judy Martens December 18. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Martens, of Walters. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Tuckwer, of Shawnee.

Charles Sparks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Sparks, Temple, has been named valedictorian of the 1957 graduating class with a straight A average for the four year high school study. Doris Dilks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Dilks, was named salutatorian and an A minus average...Miss Mary Elizabeth Evans will represent Temple’s American Legion Auxiliary at Girls State in June. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Evans. Miss Ann Lowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lowe, was made an alternate...Lt. Marie Wills, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave C. Wills, has re-enlisted in the navy nurses corps for six months and will be assigned to Corpus Christi. Lt. Wills has been stationed at the U. S. Naval Hospital at Oakland, Calif.
