Miss Viola Stevenson and Harry Calhoun were married Saturday evening in the home of Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Trevette, pastor of the First Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Stevenson of the Lincoln Valley Community. Mr. Calhoun is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Calhoun who reside in Walters...Mrs. Rhetta Paynter of Walters, sustained a broken hip early Tuesday morning in a fall at her home. Mrs. Paynter fell when she stepped from the back porch of her home. She is recovering in the Weedn Hospital in Duncan...Work is being begun this week to relieve the water shortage at the Lincoln Valley School. The well has grown steadily weaker until it has become necessary to haul all the water. The school board plans to see if the well can be cleaned and made to furnish water. If this fails, some other method will have to be found.

Miss Maxinie Petty was installed Worthy Advisor of the Walters Assembly No. 48 of the Order of Rainbow for Girls at a 7:30 p.m. meeting January 13...Double nuptial vows were exchanged by Miss Mary Anita Abbe and Roger G. Adams, and Miss Sondra Lon Griffin and Kirby D. Adams in a ceremony read January 1 in the Union Valley Baptist Church. Parents of the brides are Mr. and Mrs. Clemmie Abbe, Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. Quanah Griffin, Randlett, while the bridegrooms are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Adams, Devol...Mrs. Travis Swinford, recent bride, was complimented with a miscellaneous wedding shower last Friday evening in the Fellowship Hall of the Christian Church...Kenneth Schneeberger, Oklahoma’s 4-H Hall of Fame boy, has been invited by President Eisenhower to participate in the White House Conference on Youth March 27 to April 2.

Bill Kerr of Randlett Masonic Lodge will receive his half century pin at the District 34 meeting at Waurika’s Lodge Friday. His wife and five of his relatives will be on hand to help pin this avid Mason...Dixie Cooper and Doug Fowler were voted Walters High School Best All Around seniors...David Adams, of Devol, suffered a crushed foot and other bruises last week when he was involved in a one car accident...Mr. and Mrs. Lee Chockpoyah will celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary January 27th in the Cotton Electric Civic Room...Jerry Bob Lemons will be installed as president of the Walters Chamber of Commerce next Monday night at the annual Chamber banquet. Clyde Jones will be installed as Vice-President...Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Goss are parents of a baby girl named Ralynn Nicole, born January 20. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Videll Yackeschi and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Goss of Walters.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Henry and 7 year old daughter, Betty, of Texas City, Texas, were among those who escaped with their lives during the recent disaster in that city. In a letter to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Taylor of Temple, Mrs. Henry said: “Leon came out alive but cut and bruised; Betty is scratched up and my knee bruised. Our building and court were completely gutted and our car was demolished.” A telegram to Mr. Taylor stated that his cousin, Bill Howell, and one of the latter’s children had been killed.
