Remains of a pre-historic mastadon, near relative of the elephant, which roamed this country from 25,000 to 50,000 years ago, were unearthed recently in a gravel pit on the Allen farm, seven miles east of Hulen. Framework of the huge head with tusks eight feet long and from 7 to 9 inches in diameter, were unearthed in the pit December

24. It was covered under nine feet of gravel. No other parts were found leading to the belief that the skull was washed to this spot by an extinct river. Scientists of the Zoological department at the University of Oklahoma were called in.... Mr. and Mrs. W. E. McMasters, who reside near Walters, are the parents of a baby son born January 5. He has been named William Wilton...Mrs. Ralph White, who received a very badly crushed foot and ankle and other slight injuries when Mr. White’s team ran away throwing her and her husband from the wagon, is improving nicely.

The bride is the former Miss Janice Lue Bessemer...Mr. and Mrs. Royce Stone have chosen the name Phillip Lynn for their son born January 3...Mr. and Mrs. Leo Zachary are the parents of a baby girl, Nikki Ann, born December 31...A wedding shower was held January 2, to honor A-1c and Mrs. Robert L. Fletcher, Mesa, Arizona, newlyweds, who are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Fletcher... Jackie Joe Green of Randlett and Miss Jeanette Wise of Burkburnett, were married last Wednesday at Burkburnett. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Green of Randlett...Rev. W. E. Russell, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be guest soloist on The Country Parson television program on Channel 6 from Wichita Falls Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock.

Walters Coach Jerry Braziel was elected as Lawton Constitution’s All Area Coach of the Year in class A&B football for 1979, which includes all of southwest Oklahoma...Jim Crousen, Superintendent of Walters schools, announced the School Board Monday night that he was resigning his position effective at the conclusion of the school year...Miss Charlotte Sue Hawthorne and James Dwain Gardner were united in holy wedlock December 1 in the Calera Church of Christ. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hawthorne, of Calera, and the groom is the son of Melba Gardner, of Temple, and the late James Gardner...Cathy Scherler, of Midwest City, recently received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma. Cathy is the wife of Mark Scherler, who received his pharmacy degree last December and received his pharmacist license in July. Cathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Gandy and Mark is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Scherler, all of Walters... Robert Spurlock is the newly elected Woshipful Master of the Temple Masons.

The wedding of Mrs. Wilda V. White and Dr. F. E. Manatt was performed at 1:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon, April 6 in the First Methodist Church. The bride’s daughter, Miss Jeane White, was maid of honor. Mrs. Maude Manatt, mother of the groom attended the wedding.
