Just in case you don’t read to the end, pray for rain and always pray for salvation!

Well, I did it again about 3 months ago and it left a mark. We were loading up some rank animals to take them to the sale barn. No, they weren’t mine. One of them was a bull that should have been a dehorned steer in somebody’s freezer a year ago. But that wasn’t the case. I was trying to load him up in the trailer and he had some horns, having missed the gather a time or two. He was one of those animals that wouldn’t come to cake when it was offered to him. And he could outrun and out maneuver a number of motorized vehicles and horses.

Well, back to loading him. I had the wise idea (insert lack of) to cut him back and load him in the back compartment of the trailer, by himself. We got him separated from the cows, and all we had to do was load him in. I was standing beside the trailer gate. It was wide open. He saw me and preferred me over the trailer. Did I mention he had fairly long and straight horns?

He came at me and stuck a horn in my gut and proceeded to give me elevation. I was hoping he would get me up enough so I would end up over the fence. No, he bounced me off the ground about two feet on three attempts. He finally let go and we got him in the trailer. Now, I had visions of blood and stuff poking out of a hole. Perhaps another navel. I guess it wasn’t sharp enough because he only rearranged my gut a little and left what, today, is a dark red scar approximately the size of a quarter. I even went to see the doc just to make sure there was nothing major wrong with me. I know, that’s a loaded thought. I was sure thankful that bull only lifted me and didn’t technically gore me that day. I don’t like the sight of all that blood. By the way, I thought getting gored and horned were the same thing, but I learned from all this that gore involves blood, and often lots of it.

Let me tell you about Jesus who came and shed His blood on the cross. But we fail to truly survey the effect of the cross.

1 Peter 1:18-19 says, “… you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.” (NASB)

Jesus shed his blood at the cross for your sins and mine. If we will but turn to Him He will save us from our sin. The red blood of Jesus makes us white as snow. In the 1800’s, Pastor Robert Lowry wrote songs in addition to his pastoring duties. In 1876, he wrote the following:

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus

What can make me whole again? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus

Oh, precious is the flow That makes me white as snow

No other fount I know Nothing but the Blood of Jesus.

I’ll tell y’all what! That’s good stuff even as we sing it still today!

Romans 5:8-9, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” (NASB)

Because of sin, we all fall short of the glory of God. Jesus’ blood washes away sin. He gave His life so that we may live because He lives. How about you, do you want to live? Then ask Jesus to be your Boss. If you let Him, He will keep you on the right trail!

Choose Jesus, choose life! And find a Bible believin’ church where you “fit in” and know, grow, and follow Christ! See y’all at church and keep PRAYIN’ for HIS HARVEST! And y’all KEEP PRAYIN’ for RAIN! Amen
