Ricky Lynn Crank

Memorial Service for Ricky Lynn Crank, 55, Walters, OK was held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters, OK with Rev. Kevin Simpson officiating.

Ricky Lynn Crank was born to Jerry Dale Crank and Ellen Bernice (Smith) Brown on August 12, 1963 at Lawton, Oklahoma and departed this life January 22, 2019 at Walters, Oklahoma at the age 55 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Ricky grew up at Walters and has worked as a farm hand through the years for several area farmers and ranchers. He always enjoyed his morning coffee, doing his farm work, riding horses, playing cards and was good at drawing pictures.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Crank; his sister, Venetia Graham; and his brother, Willie Crank.

Loran Leo Zweiacker

Loran Leo Zweiacker, Stillwater, Oklahoma, entered eternal life on Monday, January 21, 2019, at age 71, surrounded by family at his home. Loran was born April 10, 1947, to Leo and Anna (Mindemann) Zweiacker in Walters, Oklahoma.

Loran graduated from Big Pasture High School in 1965 and received his State FFA Farmers degree the same year. After attending the University of Cameron for two years, he graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1969 with a bachelor’s in agricultural education. He went on to receive his master’s in the same field from OSU in 1971.

Homer Lee “Pug” Hawkins was born June 2, 1925 to Homer Washington and Claudie Hawkins in Allen, Oklahoma. Mr. Hawkins passed away on January 18, 2019 in Lawton, OK.

Homer was raised and graduated high school in Atoka, Oklahoma. Mr. Hawkins served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Homer resided at the VA Center in Lawton since April 2017. Homer retired from civil service at Ft Sill and owned Treasure Chest Jewelry in Lawton, Ok

Graveside Services for Dovie Southward, 90, Mannford, OK will be at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK, Friday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m., Jimmy Kinder officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

Dovie Pauline (Tollett) Southward was born to Cairl Hines and Gladys Mae (Richardson) Tollett on December 29, 1928 at Childress, TX and departed this life in Mannford, OK on January 21, 2019 at the age of 90 years and 23 days.

Dovie grew up and lived in several different states, eventually coming to Walters in 1949. She married Thomas Dilford “Ted” Southward on October 28, 1966. She was a homemaker and also kept books for the welding shop. In the early 1970’s she and Jim Witt started the Walters Senior Citizens Center and she served as the director from 1977 to around 1985.

Craig Curtis Colston was born to Forrest Lynn and Betty Lou (Jones) Colston on August 27, 1964 at St. Louis, MO and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 20, 2019 at the age of 54 years, 4 months and 24 days.

Craig grew up in Minnesota, graduating from Eden Prairie High School in 1982 and then attended the University of South Dakota where he played football for the Coyotes and received a Bachelor of Science degree.

Betty Jo Kindred

Funeral Services for Betty Jo Kindred, 88 of Temple, were held at the Church of Christ, Temple, OK, Tuesday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m., Josh Mallow officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple.

Betty Jo Lipscomb was born on March 17, 1930 in Temple, Oklahoma to Ruth Lipscomb....She was raised by her grandparents, John and Effie Lipscomb...

She attended the Gregg Country School through 9th grade, transferring to Temple High School...So she could make it to school on time...she was allowed to move into town and share rent with another girl, while she finished high school...

During this time, she began waitressing for a cafe owned by two brothers, Jack and Gene Kindred, with meals being part of her pay.......She graduated from Temple High School in 1948.

Renea Christine (Gresham) Wood was born to Wesley Edward and Darlene Sue (Slimp) Gresham on November 28, 1971 at Lawton, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 15, 2019 at the age of 47 years, 1 month and 18 days.

Renea grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1990. She married Ray Wood in 1995 and he preceded her in death in 2017. She has been a homemaker and enjoyed fishing when able and loved baby sitting her granddaughter, Aspen.

She was also preceded in death by her father, Wesley Gresham; her uncle, Andy Slimp Jr.; her grandfather, Andy Slimp Sr.; and her grandma, Agnes Brinker.

Mary Lindsey

Mary Arlene (Langford) Lindsey was born to Lee and Geneva Gertrude (Winton) Langford on October 16, 1942 at Comanche, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on January 12, 2019 at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 27 days.

Mary grew up at Hulen and Walters, OK, graduating from WHS in 1960. She then married Farris Dell Lindsey on April 8, 1961 at Lawton, OK and to the union 3 sons were born. They made their home at Lawton, Midwest City and Oklahoma City where she worked at the State Heath Department. They returned to Walters in 1984 and she worked 20 years as a program assistant for ASCS, retiring in 2006.

Philip Henry Beard

Philip Henry Beard, 74, was born on January 25, 1944, in Enid OK, and passed away on December 12, 2018, in OKC. His parents were James Charles Beard and LaVerne Opal (Dowell) Beard. Phillip served in the US Navy for 13 years as a photographer and earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He did considerable aerial mapping of Antarctica during Operation Deep Freeze while in the Navy, and has a mountain named after him in Antarctica called Beard’s Peak. While stationed in El Centro, California, he was active with the local Jaycees, and was involved in the beginning of Special Olympics for Southern California in 1970.

Philip married his wife, Jennie Lee (Mills) Beard on November 16, 1968, and they had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple has four children.
