Carolyn Murphy

Graveside services for Carolyn Murphy, 66, Walters, OK were held at the Walters Cemetery, Wednesday, October 11 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Mickey Miller officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Visitation was on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Carolyn Delene Murphy was born to Ralph DeWayne and Sammie Lee (Glidewell) Thorne on November 13, 1950 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Burkburnett, TX on October 9, 2017 at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 26 days.

Carolyn grew up at Walters, OK, graduating from WHS in 1969. She married Mack Arthur Murphy on November 16, 1968 at FBC, Walters and to the union 4 children were born. They made their home at Walters and Carolyn worked as a bank teller at Walters Bank and Trust, and at First State Bank in Temple.

She enjoyed Reading, attending outdoor concerts, doing cross stitch, painting and spending time with her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters.

Funeral Services for Barbara Reece, 74, Walters, OK were held at Calvary Baptist Church, Walters, 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, Rev. Philip Beard officiating, with burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Visitation was on Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm. Barbara Ellen Reece was born to Richard Clarence and Elva Edith (Stapp) Reece on September 10, 1943 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on October 3, 2017 at the age of 74 years and 23 days.

Anita Flood

Funeral Services for Anita Flood, 55, Geronimo, OK were held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 10:00 am, Rev. Steve Mallow officiating, Rev. Tony Elkins assisting with burial in the Fletcher Cemetery. Anita J. Flood was born October 8, 1961 in Lawton, OK, to Evan Sr. and Delois (Mathews) Flood and departed this life in Lawton on October 1, 2017 at the age of 55 years, 11 months and 23 days. Anita grew up in Geronimo, OK where she graduated from GHS in 1980. She was a member of the Arthritis Foundation of Oklahoma and the Abundant Life Church of Geronimo. She enjoyed photography, scrapbooking, working on her family tree and riding 4-wheelers. She worked at Gibson’s for nineteen years and taught senior citizens arthritis exercise classes for 3 years in Geronimo, Lawton and Elgin. She was also an Arthritis Foundation Walk spokesperson for 2 years. Survivors include 2 brothers, Evan Flood Jr.

Nelda Morris

Funeral Services for Nelda Morris, 71, Walters, OK were held at First Baptist Church, Temple, OK, Monday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Kent Simpson officiating. Burial in the Temple Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple. Nelda Fay Shobert Morris was born to Pleasant Jake “PJ” and Annie Derinda (Kirby) Shorbert on April 3, 1946 at Noble, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on September 21, 2017 at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 18 days. Nelda grew up the 7th of 8 children at Noble, OK. She married Foster Lee Morris on July 7, 1962 at Noble and they moved around until settling at Temple, OK in the mid 1970’s. She worked at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Walters for 20 years. Nelda loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed watching their sports and other school activities. She also enjoyed OU football.

Scottie Simpson

Brantley Tillery officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation was on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Memorial donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 202 E. Oklahoma, Walters, OK 73572. Hubert Scottie Simpson was born to Hubert T and Frances Ellen (Reece) Simpson on March 3, 1942 at Comanche, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on September 12, 2017 at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 9 days. Scottie grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1960. He attended Cameron College for a year, then completed his Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language at Southeastern in Durant, in the mid to late 1960’s, followed by graduate studies in Mexico. He also served a 6-year stint with the Oklahoma National Guard.

Mary L Connelly

Mary Louise Powell Connelly, a Temple native and avid ballroom dancer, died in Austin, Texas, September 8, 2017, a day after her 82nd birthday. Mary Lou was born September 7, 1935, to Joseph Shular Powell and Ruby Elva Kennedy Powell in Walters, Oklahoma. She graduated from Temple High School in 1953 and worked at a bank in Wichita Falls, Texas, until she married William Watson in 1954. Watson was stationed at an Air Force base in England when the couple’s twin boys, Mark Watson and Gerald Watson, were born. After England, Mary Lou moved to Massachusetts and then to Austin, Texas, where she met Webb Connelly, whom she married on March 22, 1968. Mary Lou enjoyed sky diving and ballroom dancing. In Austin, she worked in the Civil Service, retiring from the Internal Revenue Service after more than 20 years of service.

Mickey Lee Bentley

A Celebration of Life Service for Mickey Lee Bentley, 68, Lawton, OK, will be held at Community Church Lawton, OK. on Saturday, September 9 at 2:00 pm. Mickey Lee Bentley, the son of Cecil Eugene Bentley and Merlene Rylant Bentley Bean, was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on May 17, 1949 and passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 10, 2017 at the age of 68 years. He attended school in Temple, Oklahoma where he was active in sports and graduated in 1967. After graduation, he attended Cameron College. He married Karen Walden on August 29, 1994. Mickey worked for Goodyear Tire in Lawton, OK, for 30 years and after retiring he and his wife, Karen, moved to Rose Bud, Arkansas where he drove a school bus for Rose Bud Schools. He was a member of the Oklahoma National Guard and a lifelong Sooner fan. He also enjoyed going to local sporting events at Rose Bud High School as well as hunting and fishing. Mr.

Stuart Marsh

Stuart Marsh was born in the rural Walters area of Cotton County, OK to Chester and Lillie (Stephens) Marsh on March 5, 1924 and departed this life in Largo, FL on August 19, 2017 at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 14 days. Stuart grew up in the Walters area, graduating from Walters High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy on June 28, 1941, serving his country honorably during WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate 1st Class. He was discharged in October of 1945 and went on to attended Central State College for his bachelors and then received his master’s in education from Oklahoma A&M (OSU). Stuart married Lydia M.

Donald (Jiggs) Gunn

Lifetime Stephens County resident, Donald (Jiggs) Gunn Jr., 92, stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior at Duncan Regional Hospital, Sunday evening, August 27, 2017. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m., at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 - 7 p. m. Gunn was born on his family’s farm, 9 miles west on Refinery Road, March 21, 1925 to Dan and Minnie Gunn. He attended Fairland School through 8th grade, and then attended Empire School where he worked through school driving a school bus. He graduated in 1943 as Salutatorian of his senior class. Donald was awarded a scholarship to attend United States Military Academy at West Point, but declined it to help his parents run the family farm. He was a farmer and rancher most of his life. He was the owner and operator of Gunn Oil Company from 1971 to 1989.

Cecil Rupe

Funeral Services for Cecil Rupe, 87, Jacksboro, TX were held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, OK on Monday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Arbuary Ritter officiating. Cecil Loyd Rupe was born to Henry Loyd and Georgia Lavon (Irvin) Rupe on March 5, 1930 at Walters and departed this life in Jacksboro, TX on August 17, 2017 at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 12 days. Cecil grew up in the Cookietown, OK community and graduated from Union Valley High School in 1948. He married Pearl Ella Pursley in 1950 and to the union 3 sons were born. Cecil made his home in Walters, OK from 1951 to 2002 and was employed as a toll booth attendant for the H.E. Bailey Turnpike for 33 years. He lived in Lawton for 2 years and then made his home in Jacksboro, TX since 2005. He served his country honorably in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War. He loved his job and enjoyed square dancing and traveling.
