Leora “Toots” Spurlock

Funeral Services for Leora “Toots” Spurlock, 86, Temple, OK were held at First Baptist Church, Temple, Monday, February 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., Brad Spurlock and Jimmy Spurlock officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery. Visitation was held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday Evening. Memorial Donations can be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 488, Temple, OK 73568

Leora May “Toots” Spurlock was born to Milton and Juanita Ruby (Bloxsom) Robbs on May 26, 1932 at Branson, CO and departed this life in Temple, OK on February 12, 2019 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 17 days.

Johnny W. Powell

Johnny W. Powell passed from this life on February 14, 2019 at home with his family surrounding him. He was 80 years old.

He grew up and graduated high school in 1956 at Temple, Oklahoma, and continued to stay close to those roots his whole life.

He was a faithful son and brother, a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and a generous member of humanity.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Freta of 44 years, his parents Charlie and Florence, his sister Charlene Smith, and his son John Kirk.

He is survived by his son Wes and wife Shellee, step son Johnny Dennis and wife Margaret, step daughters Sandra Kay and Deborah Lynn, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He will be missed dearly by many.

James “Wayne” Johnson February 23, 1925 ~ January 29, 2019

Wayne went to be with his Lord on Tuesday. Wayne was born on Feb. 23, 1925 in Stroud, OK to Jim and Viola (Thompson) Johnson. Wayne and his brothers Wilford & Bill and sister Eva were raised in Stroud and later in Walters, OK.  Wayne graduated from Walters High School in 1943 and shortly after graduating served his country as a Merchant Marine during WWII.

Upon his return from the war he met and courted a girl that would turn out to be the love of his life, Ms. Velma Dean “Deanie” Moore. The two married on March 28, 1947 and were blessed with two sons, Ron and Charles. Wayne and his family were very active members at Walters First United Methodist Church and he served in many capacities at the church. Wayne was affiliated with the Lions Club, was an assistant Boy Scout Troop Leader, and started and coached Pee-Weefootball in Walters. He was well respected in the community and had a servant’s heart. He loved his family dearly and worked hard to support them.

Ricky Lynn Crank

Ricky Lynn Crank was born to Jerry Dale Crank and Ellen Bernice (Smith) Brown on August 12, 1963 at Lawton, Oklahoma and departed this life January 22, 2019 at Walters, Oklahoma at the age 55 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Ricky grew up at Walters and has worked as a farm hand through the years for several area farmers and ranchers. He always enjoyed his morning coffee, doing his farm work, riding horses, playing cards and was good at drawing pictures.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Crank; his sister, Venetia Graham; and his brother, Willie Crank.

Loran Leo Zweiacker

Loran Leo Zweiacker, Stillwater, Oklahoma, entered eternal life on Monday, January 21, 2019, at age 71, surrounded by family at his home. Loran was born April 10, 1947, to Leo and Anna (Mindemann) Zweiacker in Walters, Oklahoma.

Loran graduated from Big Pasture High School in 1965 and received his State FFA Farmers degree the same year. After attending the University of Cameron for two years, he graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1969 with a bachelor’s in agricultural education. He went on to receive his master’s in the same field from OSU in 1971.

Homer Lee “Pug” Hawkins was born June 2, 1925 to Homer Washington and Claudie Hawkins in Allen, Oklahoma. Mr. Hawkins passed away on January 18, 2019 in Lawton, OK.

Homer was raised and graduated high school in Atoka, Oklahoma. Mr. Hawkins served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. Homer resided at the VA Center in Lawton since April 2017. Homer retired from civil service at Ft Sill and owned Treasure Chest Jewelry in Lawton, Ok

Dovie Pauline (Tollett) Southward was born to Cairl Hines and Gladys Mae (Richardson) Tollett on December 29, 1928 at Childress, TX and departed this life in Mannford, OK on January 21, 2019 at the age of 90 years and 23 days.

Dovie grew up and lived in several different states, eventually coming to Walters in 1949. She married Thomas Dilford “Ted” Southward on October 28, 1966. She was a homemaker and also kept books for the welding shop. In the early 1970’s she and Jim Witt started the Walters Senior Citizens Center and she served as the director from 1977 to around 1985.

Craig Curtis Colston was born to Forrest Lynn and Betty Lou (Jones) Colston on August 27, 1964 at St. Louis, MO and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 20, 2019 at the age of 54 years, 4 months and 24 days.

Craig grew up in Minnesota, graduating from Eden Prairie High School in 1982 and then attended the University of South Dakota where he played football for the Coyotes and received a Bachelor of Science degree.
