Walters Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade has been postponed to December 14th

Due to the weather that is coming our way this week the Walters Chamber of Commerce has chose to postpone the Christmas Parade till Saturday, December 14th. With this postponement there is still time to get registered to be in the parade. Set your sights on Christmas lights, music, and a visit from Santa.

Frankie Valdez ex- Mayor of Walters Passes Away

Funeral Services for Frankie Valdez were held at First Baptist Church, Walters, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 30, Pastors Roger Noland and Gary Thurman officiating. Burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction
of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Viewing was held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, with viewing on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. A Prayer Service was held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the Walters Volunteer Fire Dept., 129 E. Colorado, Walters, OK 73572

Dahlia Garden Club Hosts Poster Contest For Students

The Dahlia Garden Club sponsors the National Garden Clubs Poster Contests each year. On Wednesday, November 20, 2013 students in grades K thru 5 were invited to come to the Walters Public Library after school and make posters. All supplies were provided. Melanie Spence, Club President said “The various posters were: Wildflower - Blue eyed grass, Bird (there was a choice) - the Mockingbird or the American Goldfinch, Butterfly - the Queen. The Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl are 2 favorites and there were several entries”.

“Locally Lead, Not Federally Dead”

Leaders in conservation gathered at the Area IV Meeting of the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts held in Weatherford, Okla. on October 29, 2013 to address budgetary challenges faced by conservation districts across the state as well as discuss new trends in conservation such as prescribed burn associations springing up to combat wildfire, and the implementation of cover crops to maintain healthy, living soil throughout the year. Deer Creek Conservation District hosted the meeting, sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts (OACD) and cosponsored by the Oklahoma Conservation Commission (OCC) in cooperation with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).

Home invasion suspect starred in “Mudcats” reality show

STEPHENS CO., Okla_7News learned of a big breakthrough Wednesday in the long investigation of a home invasion robbery in rural Stephens County, where the homeowner was shot twice and his wife tied up. Authorities arrested two men early this morning for the crime: John Oxford and Winston Walters. The robbery and assaults happened back in January, but a tip earlier this month led investigators to the suspects.

Code Talker receives Congressional Gold Medal

Walters, Oklahoma– November 15, 2013– Denise Tulloh, a teacher of PK-5 Elementary Music Education at Walters Public Schools, has renewed her National Board Certification through a rigorous, performance-based, peer-review process. Like Board certification in professions such as medicine and architecture, National Board Certification is the highest mark of accomplishment in teaching.

Cotton County Commissioner and Employees Lend A Helping Hand To Walters Public School

Walters Public School, Superintendent, Jimmie Ded- mon, asked for the assistance of Cotton County Commissioner, Ed Eschiti, in preparing the ground for the two new additions for Walters Public Schools. Ed agreed with the help of his Foreman, Charles Holybee, and their six man crew, including: Don Ottwell, Roy Simms, Billy Ray Tisdale, Jared Whitehead, Wes Eidson, and Jacob Amos. The crew broke ground on August 13, 2013 at 7:00 a.m. at the Vo. Ag. building.
