Walters toddler overcomes brain tumor

WALTERS, OK - Austyn Lawler is a brave little 3 yearold girl from Walters. A few months ago a brain tumor was found, and since then it’s been a myriad of tests, treatments, and surgeries. Through all of that, she is still here, smiling and laughing with her parents who do all they can to make sure she makes it through this tough time.

Temple family starts to recover after overnight fire

One Cotton County family has been displaced after a late night fire ripped through their home. Crews responded to the fire just after midnight Friday morning. When they arrived,  the garage was completely engulfed in flames, but they Temple family starts to recover after overnight fire KSWO.com were able to easily keep it contained to the west side of the home but despite their efforts it was still a total loss. The family now has a long road of cleanup ahead of them

Walters Hometown Grocery Store DOES NOT Have Recalled Meat

There has been information from USDA and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that Rancho Feeding Corporation has had a recall on beef. Many grocery stores have been effected by this recall across the nation Walters Hometown Grocery Store in Walters and Shelton Grocery in Waurika has not been effected by this recall.

Agricultural Education Travels Oklahoma Roads

The OKFB Grown for You commodity trailer made a stop Feb. 19 at the Walters Public Schools where 350 students learned about food, fiber and fuel by playing interactive video games. Agricultural education has never been more important. And now, thanks to a trio of Oklahoma institutions, it has never been more mobile either.

Finalists Announced In Essay Competition

High school juniors from 10 schools submitted a total of 100 essays in Cotton Electric Cooperative’s 2014 RuralElectric Youth Tour contest. The entries were pared down to the 25 best essays on the topic “The Seven Cooperative Principles,” and their authors were invited to CEC headquarters in Walters for the interview round of the competition.

Cache Valley Masonic Lodge #530 held Distrist Dinner

Cache Valley Masonic Lodge #530 held their annual District dinner on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Cotton Electric Community Center. During the meeting and dinner Dwayne High was  presented with his 50 year pin. Keith Hooker was also honored with a 50 year pin. Mr. Hooker passed away in January so his wife and daughters were there to accept the pin.

Arrest made on car thefts in Walters

28 year old James Fay Gwin was charged in Cotton County District Court on felony charges. These charges are 4 counts Larceny Arrest made on car thefts in Walters of Automobile and two counts of arson, according to court
records. This is not his first run in with authorities. He was  convicted in February, 2006 on felony charges of Larceny of Motor Vehicle and unauthorized use of motor vehicle, records indicate.

Registor by March 7, 2014 to vote April 1st

Friday, March 7, is the last time to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the April 1, City of Walters General Election, Cotton County Election Board Secretary, Shellie Hart said today. Hart said that persons who
are United States citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 18 years old may apply to become registered voters
