Cotton County Election Board News

Voters in Cotton County who want to have absentee ballots mailed to them for the November 12th, Special Countywide Election, should apply now, County Election Board Secretary, Shellie Hart said today. Although the county election board can accept applications for absentee ballots until Wednesday, November 6th, Mrs. Hart urged voters who want to vote by absentee ballot to apply early.

October 5, 2013 Walters was a happening place, with the Thirteenth Annual Walters Car Cruz and the City Wide Garage Sales. Despite the cold weather the turn out was well over expectations. With the sun coming out around lunch time the people started to come out and there was lots of fun and competitions!

Law enforcement agencies from across Southwest Oklahoma continued their search Monday for an inmate who escaped from the Cotton County Jail overnight, bring his total number of escapes in the county to five. The last time 45 year-old Robert L. Turk was cornered by law enforcement officers -near the Comanche-Cotton county line - he forced a pistol into his mouth and pulled the trigger. At that time, he was being sought in connection with the June 22 shootings of Donna Devine, and Louis Slomba, who were shot at a home northeast of Walters.

Michael Edgmon Member of CSC College Rodeo Team

Michael Edgmon, a 2011 graduate of Walters High School, is a member of the Connors State College Rodeo Team in Warner, OK.
Warner, OK – Michael Edgmon of Walters, Oklahoma is serving as a member of the Connors State College Rodeo Team in Warner, OK. Edgmon is a sophomore at CSC and pursuing an Associates of Science degree in Agriculture. Edgmon competes in Steer Wrestling and was selected by other members to serve as an Event Director for the team. Majoring in Equine Science, Edgmon plans to transfer to Oklahoma State University after graduation. Michael is the son of David and Alexandra Edgmon.

AgPreference, ACA donates $2,000 to help the hungry

ALTUS (September 24, 2013)—AgPreference, ACA presented a $2,000 check donation to the First United Methodist Church/Food Pantry of Walters, Oklahoma on Tuesday to help in the effort to aid those struggling with hunger. The funds are to be used in Cotton County. “We are proud to ‘share our success’ with those in need and be good corporate citizens,” said Cecil H. Sheperson, AgPreference president and chief executive officer. “By getting involved, we can make a difference in helping with this cause and the important work that First United Methodist Church-Food Pantry does every day.”

Officers of the Temple, Walters and Big Pasture FFA Chapters participated in the 2013 Oklahoma FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Conference September 17 at the Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton. The eight State FFA Officers planned and conducted this year’s conference based on the theme, “Multiply...Your Numbers, Your Involvement, Your Success.”
