Darrell Wayne Dilks, Sr., retired OG&E Guthrie District Superintendent , was born to Eolie Earl and Ledonia Blanche (Cochran) Dilks on June 30, 1924, north of Temple, Oklahoma, in his beloved short grass country as the third of eleven children. He passed away in Edmond, Oklahoma on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Darrell grew up in Temple attending Pioneer School before graduating from Temple High in 1942. He married his childhood sweetheart, Ernestine Lillian Shaw on September 11, 1943. He reported for active duty in the U.S. Army on October 12, 1943.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ernestine L. Shaw Dilks and their three children - Brenda (Paul) Dodson, Darrell (Eva) Dilks, and Randy (Tonya) Dilks. His six grandchildren are Stuart, Cara, Sara, Zachary, Elise, and Russell. His six great-grandchildren are Roark, Calvin, Chianti, Zephyr, Vallen, and Vivian. His surviving siblings are Charles (Glenna) Dilks, Doris Kay (Doyal) Humphries, Ann (Bob) Cable, and Judy (Walter) Butler and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Clorice Barnett, Jean Powell, Merrell Dilks, Otho Dilks, Billy Dilks, and Donnie Dilks.

Darrell is a 1949 graduate of Oklahoma A & M, later Oklahoma State University. He was a Vocational Agriculture teacher in the late 1940’s and 1950’s. He later worked for OG&E and retired from OG&E as the District Superintendent for Guthrie. He is a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theatre and was awarded two Bronze Stars (Battle of the Bulge) prior to his honorable discharge. Past and present organizations include the OSU Posse Club, Former Vo-Ag Teachers, OG&E Retirees, Guthrie Rotary Club, and the Guthrie First United Methodist Church Men’s Club. Darrell was a 32 degree Mason belonging to the Albert Pike Lodge of Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Guthrie First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Temple Cemetery in Temple, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
