Billy “Bill” George Seward died the afternoon of July 22 in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was born September 27, 1937, in Walters, Oklahoma, to James Myron and Allena Celeste Seward. Bill was their sixth child. He attended Temple Public Schools and graduated in 1955. On November 1, 1958, he married Ruth Rhodes of Walters, Oklahoma. Bill joined the United States Army in August 1959, and was sent to Germany in 1960. Ruth, pregnant with their firstborn child, followed him a few months later. Bekah Ruth was born in November 1960. In March 1961, they traveled to Bricket Wood, England, where they were baptized into the Radio Church of God (later renamed the Worldwide Church of God). The couple lived in Germany for two years, until Bill received an early honorable discharge from the Army in 1962. The small family returned to Oklahoma and made their home in Lawton, where they had two more children, Billy George II and Jerry Dan. In 1967, they moved south of Temple and had their final two children: Rachel Ramona and Celeste Eve. There, Bill was employed by Elliott Manufacturing for more then 20 years, and Ruth devoted herself to being a full-time homemaker. In 1995, Bill and Ruth left the Worldwide Church of God and joined the Philadelphia Church of God. In 2008, family and friends joined the couple to celebrate their 50th anniversary in the same church they were married in. When his wife died on August 3, 2015, Bill began making arrangements to move to Edmond, Oklahoma, to live with his eldest child. He and four of his chickens moved in March 2016. He faithfully tended to his “chickees” and attended church as long as his health allowed. He died surrounded by his family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, three of his older brothers and his older sister, and his wife. Survivors include three daughters: Bekah Ruth Seward of Edmond, Oklahoma, Rachel Ramona Zoellner of Rogers, Arkansas, and Celeste Eve Dever and Daniel of Spring, Texas; and two sons: Billy George Seward and Tina of Temple, Oklahoma, and Jerry Dan Seward and Bridget of Sunset, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Cotton Electric Co-op on Monday, August 13 at 10 a.m. Mr. Mark Hyde will be officiating.
