Funeral Service for Annagene Nickerson, 88, of Comanche, OK were held at Corum Baptist Church, Corum, OK, Wednesday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m., Bill Nickerson and Roy Snider officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Interment was at 2:00 p.m. that same afternoon in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK. Visitation was held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial Donations can be made to Cotton County 4-H Foundation, 301 N. Broadway, Walters, OK 73572. Nancy Annagene Nickerson was born to Frederick Darl and Nancy Jeanettie (Grimes) Dunbar on April 22, 1930 in Temple, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on June 22, 2018 at the age of 88 years and 2 months. Annagene attended Beaver Creek School east of Walters and finished at Walters High in the Class of 1947. She married Elmer Lee Nickerson on May 12, 1948 in Duncan, OK. The couple moved to Ventura County, California in August of 1949. She was a homemaker but also worked at the Lemon House and a cannery in Oxnard, California, then was a switchboard operator at Camarillo State Hospital. She also worked as a seamstress, being called on to make figure and ice skating costumes, dresses, vest, jackets and more from her home. Due to her volunteer efforts and support she was named an Honorary Sr. of Hueneme High Class of 1976. The family returned to Oklahoma on June 28, 1976, making their home on Annagene’s family homestead in the Beaver Creek bottom in eastern Cotton County where they farmed, raised cattle and had a custom hay service. She enjoyed the life of a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was Secretary/Treasurer of Little League Baseball and ran the snack bar. She was an Honorary Member of the Cotton County 4-H, a long-time member of the Walters Round-Up Club, and a member of the Corum Baptist Church. Annagene was preceded in death by a son, David Glenn Nickerson; 2 grandsons, Kenneth Lee Nickerson and David Ray Nickerson; her parents, Fred and Nancy Dunbar; and is glad to be reunited with her beloved Elmer who preceded her in 2015. Survivors include her children and their spouses, William R. and Adrianne (Bowley) Nickerson of Westminster, MD, James E. and Jeri (Bakalar) Nickerson of Grand Junction, CO, Nancy L. (Nickerson) Weir and Bruce A. of Duncan, T. Elizabeth (Nickerson) Weir and Kenneth E. of Comanche, OK; her sister, Theodessa Darl McCartney; 15 grandchildren, Tammy Nickerson, Brandi Reckley, William Nickerson, Lacey Stonesifer, Dianne Carpenter, Jini Spradley, Suzie Cõhen, William Carlin, Samantha Carlin, Andrew Nickerson, Candice Weir, Delmer Nickerson, Terral Douglas Rather, Suzannahe (Weir) Smith and Jonathan Weir; 23 great grandchildren, Shaianne Nickerson, Amber Larson, Danielle, Taylor and Dillon Barlow, Paul Reckley, Kish, Caleb and Asher Carpenter, Zoe, Andrew and Lilyanna Spradley, Lincoln and Tucker Cõhen, Isaac and Gideon Carlin, Xzavier, Izaiah and Hunter Nickerson, Cameron Dotson, Blake Nickerson, Benjamin “Benji” Smith, Hadley Smith, Reed William Stonesifer, and one on the way; other relatives and a host of friends.
