Graveside service at Fort Sill National Cemetery, 2648 NE Jake Dunn Rd., Elgin, OK, Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. A reception for family and friends will follow at Crossroads Baptist Church, 11423 NE 75th St, Elgin, OK from 3pm - 5pm.

Dovie Ann (McClenny) Douglass was born to John Coley and Myrtle Lee (Brown) McClenny on August 4, 1920 in Tyler, TX and departed this life at her home in rural Elgin, OK on April 15, 2024 at the age of 103 years, 8 months and 11 days.

Dovie grew up at Temple, OK, graduating from THS in 1938. She married Leonard LeRoy Whiteley on May 3, 1941 in Temple. To this union a daughter, Jimmie, was born. LeRoy preceded her in death on May 26, 1943. She later married Eugene Haig Douglass on January 10, 1948 in Purcell, OK and to this union a son and daughter, Herschell and Virginia, were born.

Dovie worked at the IGA grocery store in Temple up until hiring on at the Haggar slacks factory there, working in the cutting department for many years. Upon retirement, she stayed active with friends and her beloved community of Temple. She and Gene made the move to the current home on Trail Road southeast of Elgin in 2001. Gene preceded her in death on August 14, 2010.

Dovie was an active member of First Baptist Church in Temple for 55 years and then joined Crossroads Baptist Church upon her move to Elgin. She enjoyed years of doing volunteer work for various organization up to year 2018.

Survivors include 3 children, Jimmie Scruggs, Herschell Douglass and Virginia Lea Hatcher; her daughter-in-law, Carly Douglass; 6 grandchildren and spouses, Kevin Scruggs and Kate, Brandi Douglass, Doug Howard and Natalie, Kelly Scruggs, Robert Douglass and Jennifer, Sarah Hatcher Cabral and Diego; 5 great grandchildren, William Scruggs, Keller Howard, Hudson Howard, Monroe Douglass, and Clive Douglass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Myrtle McClenny; 7 brothers, Arbie, Lennis, Ray, Clyde, Olen, Odice Lee and Weldon McClenny; and her son-in-law, Terry Scruggs.
